Now that we have this "new look" summary of our available and processing funds, I'm trying to double check the balance, make sure it agrees with what I think I should have in total funds, both processing and available, but I can't figure out where the "on hold" money is for a USPS-delayed item that a customer opened a case about.
My question: Are the three totals combined - available, processing, on hold my full balance, or is the on hold money part of "available" even though it isn't available? (In any case, I've been hand adding my sales for a couple of weeks and my balance isn't right either way, but at least knowing where these "on hold" funds are will help me untangle the mystery. )
Thanks for any help! 🙂

Thanks so much - but one thing is hanging me up with this: The funds that are being held have already been paid out to me weeks ago. The customer opened a case because the item is very delayed getting to them because of USPS factors (Covid, holidays, etc). So when that happens, does Ebay then deduct the funds from my available/pending at the time the case is opened? I know these seem like logical and silly questions, but before the "new look" I never saw a deduction or a surplus when funds were being held or released - it was like some phantom limbo that didn't change any totals.

I’m not sure how it shows as I’ve not had to go through that yet, but I will tag someone that will probably know for sure.

Thank you for the tag. I will try to help. If I miss anything, just let me know.
Regarding the New Payment Summary Screen:
The money that is yet to be refunded to you for a voided shipping label is NOT represented on the Payment Summary page.
The link for money on hold is just our open return requests or other cases.
The Pending payments are those that have not yet cleared their funding source.
Available fund are monies that are ready to be transferred to the seller on the next available Business Day or Tuesday morning for those on Weekly payouts.
We LOST the ability to see the total payments in MP [pending plus available] with the new redesign. It sure would be nice for this to return. It is a useful number.
Shipping labels that have been voided and are pending refund do not show up on this summary page. It sure would be nice if it did, but currently that isn't an option.

I've tagged the payment team so that they can see this too. I also encourage everyone to use the comment field on the Payment Summary page with whatever comments you may have about the new screen. The more that do this the better our chances of seeing some improvements.

Thank you @loveyourimagination49 !
Thanks @mam98031 - that is a great and detailed explainer of the new design.
You hit the nail on the head with this: "We LOST the ability to see the total payments in MP [pending plus available] with the new redesign. It sure would be nice for this to return. It is a useful number. " Indeed, it's the number we need to have the ability to double check their math. In a few cases since I started MP in Sept, I've felt that a sale has not been added to the running total. I did screenshots every day so I could see what my total was at the start of every so I could check them. It's far less transparent now, something that should not be when it comes to managing people's money.
I offer free shipping, so I never have to worry about those numbers in cases of return/cancel. So just to confirm using a hypothetical: If my available funds are 5 dollars and my pending are 5 dollars and my "on hold" funds are 5 dollars - the total amount that Ebay owes me is 15 - yes? Again I realize that is how it should work and sounds like a dumb question, but I never remember a time prior to the new design that I saw the on hold money added to my total once released so just assumed it was in my pending.
I super appreciate everyone's time! Getting through to managed payments on the phone is a near impossible task 🙂

ebay's presentation of funds status is an abomination. They have different screens that show different amounts and make it a real chore to reconcile your funds. There is no single screen that tell you all the debits and credits made to your account. Why?
I have one question for the Mangled Payments team;
If your bank or brokerage account listed transactions the way ebay does with their sellers, would you continue doing business with them or would you take your business elsewhere?

Yes there is. The downloadable Detailed Transaction Report. Sometimes we just don't realize the info is available when it actually is, maybe not in the format we want to see, but it is there.

"The downloadable Detailed Transaction Report."
Could you please point me to where this Report is?
I know about the "Transaction Report" but it has 30 columns of data in Excel. If you expand the columns to read the data it is near impossible to read and understand. I do not find a way to print the data in a useful format.
Maybe the "Detailed Transaction Report" would be more useful or is this the same as the "Transaction Report"?

Seller Hub
Payment Tab
On the left of your screen choose Reports
That is the beauty of Excel. You can delete columns or hide columns you don't need. Add something if you need to. If you mess up, you can always download the report again. Or what I do is save the original on a separate page in my Excel workbook and then manipulate a copy of it on my first page of the workbook to be what I need it to be.
Remember that when you first open the worksheet in Excel, the first option is Delimited or Fixed width. Choose Delimited. Then click the next button. Of the options in front of you choose Comma. And the finished button. Then your report will appear in front of you and you can manipulated it as needed.
Let me know if you need more help. I will be happy to assist.

You are correct, the report does list the debits and credits but in a format that's not much better than a shoe box full of receipts with notations in the margins. I for one expect more from a company that handles my money.
I spent several years as a treasurer of a couple of not for profit organizations, currently balance a couple of bank accounts all by myself, have a few brokerage accounts, and not one of them is as disorganized and hard to follow as ebay's Mangled Payments reporting. As treasurer, if I had presented my financial reports to the membership or the clubs tax preparer like ebay does, I'd have been fired from my volunteer position.
I know down to the penny how much ebay owes me at any given time but it's impossible to reconcile with their reports. Last week, I had a hold for a late package for $32 and deducting that from sales not disbursed, my balance sheet said I had $42 that ebay owed me. That $32 was the only amount shown on my Payments Summary page that I agreed with. The "Processing" amount was $69 and the "Available" amount was negative $25. (numbers rounded for simplicity) I figured those numbers must have been the daily lottery numbers divided by the relative humidity because they sure didn't reflect anything in my books. I cannot fathom how the big sellers manage to reconcile thousands of transactions.
Well then, lets head over to the Detailed Transaction Report and see if that explains things. Whoops! It's rather hard to reconcile an account when no running balances are given. I mean I could go back to the Payments Summary page for totals but those are incorrect. Adding and subtracting the numbers from the report generated the $42 I knew was correct with one exception. That $32 hold I mentioned earlier? Yup, ebay entered it as a debit followed immediately as a credit which used to equal $0 50 years ago when I took accounting. Perhaps I haven't kept up with things?
The people that set up this mess either don't understand how to supply financial reports or don't care.

Do you know how to work with a spreadsheet program? It is hugely helpful as you can arrange that info in any way you want to see it.
01-19-2021 02:43 PM
Yep. I do.
I struggled with my first TRS-80 spreadsheet but got better with when I upgraded to my Atari 800.
That aside, why should I have to reformat a spreadsheet just to get a simple balance of my account?

Ok, so basically the one you called the "Detailed Transaction Report" is actually what eBay calls the "Transaction Report" on their link, same Report, yes? I thought maybe there was another Report.
I have the Report download as Fixed Width. I will try downloading it as Delimited and see if I can make better use of it.
Currently my report for December is two pages as far as rows. But due to the amount of data in Columns A thru AD it requires 15 Pages to print on 8.5" X 14" paper. On a single page that would be 210 inches. That is 17.5 foot. I do not want a scroll.
I tried deleting some of the unneeded data. I will keep playing with it seeing what else I can delete.
Thanks for you help.
