I sold an item on Ebay for £9.50 on 9th August and an item for £9.00 on 10th September. For each item the buyer paid promptly and I dispatched. I received positive feedback for each. But the money has not come through.
Many, many hours have been spent in searching the Ebay and Paypal websites, with telephone calls and chat sessions with both Ebay and Paypal, with no resolution. I'm happy to accept if I've done something wrong, if only someone would tell me what it is.
Mid-September I telephoned Ebay and was told I need to specify, for each item, the Paypal account details. After more than an hour of looking I could find nowhere on Ebay to do this.
I did see text on my 09-Aug Ebay listing saying that payment would not be made until 21 days after the sale (no reason specified). I waited a generous 31 days - still no payment.
I chat/messaged Ebay 10-Sep to find out why. I was given a Paypal transaction ID and was told Ebay would invoice me for their commission. I was told my PayPal account was not "fully verified" and the money was refunded to the buyer the day before. This seemed strange as I had received no notification that there was a problem nor even that the payment was being refunded! I have received money (refunds) from Ebay sellers without problems in the past and my Paypal email address has not changed.
I contacted Paypal to find out about verifying my account. I followed the steps - it seemed odd as everything already seemed set up for receiving money. I kept questioning Paypal who told me that my Paypal email address and Ebay email address must be the same, or I must add my Ebay address to Paypal. I added my Ebay login email address to Paypal.
I sold the second item on 10-Sep for £9.00. For this sale £8.44 is "on hold" with no reason specified (the discrepancy is presumably due to a Paypal charge).
I called Ebay 16-Sep about the non-payments. The customer service agent checked the Ebay records and confirmed my main Paypal email address is the Paypal address they have for me - suggesting that I did not need to add my Ebay login address to Paypal after all.
Regarding the 09-Aug sale I was told it was Paypal not Ebay who was responsible for refunding the payment to the buyer (despite the positive feedback). I was advised to contact the buyer and Paypal. I will not contact a buyer about a payment he made correctly over a month ago and I've already contacted Paypal.
Does anyone have any tips before I write my money off as stolen and give up trying to sell on Ebay?

When you set up the listing, you have to enter the Pay Pal email address you want the payment to go to.
If your buyers are paying, but there are no payments in your Pay Pal account, check your listings to make sure the right email was entered.
As a new seller, your payments will be held, but they will still show in your Pay Pal account.
