I was just informed that eBay is dropping the use of PayPal which is a terrible idea. I buy and sell golf equipment and by using my personal PayPal account, my wife is not aware of my activities which both of use prefer. Dropping PayPal and having to go through our joint checking account means all of my activity is visible to my wife which is a disaster. There are far fewer transactions for her to reconcile each month and she doesn't have to always question me about everything. Further, at the end of the day, eBay is changing their fees that will no doubt result in zero savings for customers like me. They are basically taking the PayPal fees for themselves. I had several items scheduled to be listed that I cancelled and instead sold them on a golf website that uses PayPal between its members and NO FEES. Bye eBay!

Open a free checking account with one of the on-line banks. Problem solved, wife kept clueless (sure, she likes it that way, LOL).

I have a friend who was looking for one of these online bank accounts but all of the ones she could find required her to have a smartphone (which she doesn't have). She finally gave up looking. I was trying to help her get prepared for Managed Payments since I've given up on it and had time to help her.

Totally agree. Ebay is not my bank. They don't get my bank account number - or my SSN for that matter. That's why I have Paypal. ONE online bank I use for this sort of thing. I've already pulled the item I was selling. Bye Bye Ebay.
