Can't sell without SSN anymore?

Since eBay changed the way sellers get paid, it's asking me to update my details including a SSN/ITIN. I barely sell anything on eBay and this wasn't an issue before. I'm an international student living in the US so I don't have any of these. Can I no longer sell on eBay?

As a payment processor, in certain circumstances eBay's Managed Payments is required to remit tax information to the Internal Revenue Service.

Rather than be caught in violation of the law should you surpass the reporting requirements, they require you to furnish this information up front. 

You do not need a social security number, however. You can apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).

We have the similar situation. And now i dont know how to pay out money on ebay they forcing me to update but I really dont have san or itin. They said if i dont update by April 26,2021 may risk losing  selling privileges. Anyone knows what other way to get my money on eBay?

@jesall-26, your items are located in California. If you are living in the USA, and making money in the USA, then you need to have either a SSN or an TIN. 

You will also need a bank account in your name, in the USA. You will probably need to have a SSN to get a bank account.

The last time I opened a bank account which was years ago I'm pretty sure they have ur social I just opened a savings in my children's names and I had to give their socials for it ...have u never rexieved a tax paper for money sitting in the bank ? Yes a bank needs your social but not a tin

I live in the UK and logged into ebay.co.uk to put up a listing.

Ebay asks me for SSN or ITIN neither of which is a "thing" in the UK.

It is simply your tax file number, the number you list when you are submitting your income to your government every year.

Post this on the UK boards rather than the US, as all countries have different systems in place and other UK sellers will have already done this so can help you

France has a different system and will be processed using Payoneer, ask on your own boards as other sellers will be able to assist you with your countries requirements.

No if you can not provide the information requested you will not be able to sell on eBay anymore 

You will now be paying taxes with each transaction so as stated by other board members have explained this information is needed for reporting income to the IRS

My understanding is your visa has to include permission to work in the US  while you are here attending school but I may be mistaken as I no personal experience with the rules
