Buyer doing end-around for payment

On some of my recent items a buyer contacts me and offers a high bid amount for my item, but does NOT place an auction bid or utilize the buy it now option.  I advise them to place their bid using normal the eBay item bid or BIN process. I believe this behavior is some kind of a buyer scam. They want to send funds via PayPal and have me send out the item. This wouldn't include any eBay involvement in the transaction and I am not comfortable with this kind of monkey business.

of course it is a scam: they want YOUR paypal addy so they can send you a FAKE payment notice.
