I found a listing on facebook marketplace for an iPhone 12 Pro Max 512GB Unlocked for $400 which is an astounding deal, so naturally I want to make sure it isn't a scam. The seller lives in another state (their relative listed it on facebook in my area) and so she wants to do the deal through "eBay Item Purchase Protection."
She gave my personal details to eBay and I got an email supposedly from eBay. I called the number to see if it sounded like a scammer but it sounded pretty legit I just can't find this number or email anywhere else so I find it a bit sketchy.

Yes, that is a well known SCAM.
No such thing as an eBay Purchase Protection Order.
eBay never instructs you to pay with a gift card and that's not how you redeem one.
The number and email in that FAKE invoice connects to the scammer.

eBay does not support listing on any other site except eBay web site

It's also strange that the item is not listed on ebay, if she were to list it on ebay she could easily get double the money. I found one of the images she used in a reverse google image search. And finally, her "sister" that posted the ad in my area deleted her facebook account.

Thank you very much! The scammer did an excellent job I must say because the email is well put together and they were not pushy at all.
When I called he sounded jsut like a tired employee lol!

She could not list it on eBay............. there was never any phone to sell - just a flat out scam to get money.
Think about it, would you go to Target to pay for something you bought at Walmart ?
