So I ordered a engine for my 2000 mustang gt, I had it sent right to the shop to have the work done. My shop ended up swapping it for me and everything for abt $5.8k with some extra parts for the new engine of course. The engine it’s self cost an extra $1.3k. Now this engine that came is compatible with multiple cars of some years, the problem is… the engine that came isn’t the engine that was advertised. It was a less hp engine then the one that was advertised. It wasn’t even the same engine in the picture. You can see the differences, I am very disappointed in the amount of money I put in my car just to get a slower car with a engine that wasn’t advertised. What can I do about this? Did I just lose 7.1k?

I am not sure if you can do as not as described claim. You could file and take your chances. You should open up a dialogue with the seller. Maybe they would offer a partial refund. Maybe they made an honest mistake and would want to compensate you to some degree. The nuclear option would be starting a chargeback with you credit card company.

Well, if i were in your shoes I would just keep the car the way it is now.
Since it does work I would suggest trying to sell it If you don't like it, then you can buy another hot car for the girl your trying to impress... LOL... If there is one.

I've had a few Fords and the only thing that made them go faster, was to push them faster. 😀

Faster then my stock hp, wasn’t planning on going under LOL

Fools On Race Day (Ford) backwards = Driver Returns On Foot. 😥

Now that I am done kidding around. What I know about modern engines much less Ford ones, would fit in a thimble. (my performance cars are/were all `50s -`60s platforms (pre-emission control) and Chevys except for my very first car a `59 AC (Ace) Bristol, which I put a `61, 2.6L Ruddspeed engine in.
However, my neighbor is a veritable encyclopedia about those things. Since we do not know what you had vs. what you wanted/received we'd need more info. Did you order a crate motor, if so which one? Was it a Short block (Block and rotating assembly only) or a Long block (fully assembled RTR motor)
Due to the Super Bowl, I will not be able to respond if you add more info after about 2:00pm EST. I'm helping my next door neighbor set up for his SB party.
He said HP improvement would depend on what motor what you ordered. He says there are visible differences and the serial numbers can be run. I have a few pages of notes from our conversation.
His main suggestion was that you should have ordered an `01 Panther PI motor (performance improved). If you tried to swap the 2000 GT (PI) motor for a 2000 police interceptor Crown Vic motor Non Performance Improved (NPI) you probably lost 50 hp, and converting it to a GT plant is a pain. He felt a careful inspection should have told you that you and the mechanic, you received the wrong engine.

Reading between the lines from what OP has said about this, I think he ordered a Mustang 4.6 engine, which for a 2000 GT should have been a PI engine. He hasn't said what version of engine was in his Stang to begin with. So we don't know if he was replacing a lower-output engine, or a 4.6 PI that wasn't performing to spec.
For the same year, the Crown Vic 4.6 was NPI, and as you say, it would not have as much power. I agree, knowing that there were such subtle differences between the engine, a careful inspection was called for to make sure that the correct engine had been received.

"He hasn't said what version of engine was in his Stang to begin with".
Absolutely true. I was so busy trying to decipher my chicken scrawl, not made any better by the bourbon we shared last night, I forgot to ask the OP what he had to begin with.

I would like to buy tickets to watch this debate. What proof do you have and how will you substantiate your claims?
To prove your case, you would have to show that the engine you have is materially different than the one purchased. On a 23 year old car, the fact that you have a running engine is enough to have your claim dismissed.
Again, how much are tickets going to be?

There is no debate at this point. Unfortunately, the New engine or block was built up and installed, before it was discovered that it was the wrong one. Thus voiding ebay's Money Back Guarantee. Now it is just a matter of trying to help the OP possibly deal with the situation.
