Monthly Chat - April 12th at 1:00 pm PST

Come chat with the eBay Community team this month as the chat will be an open forum for you to ask questions. Get all of your questions ready for the us, so we can make the most out of this month's chat on April 12th at 1:00 pm PT!

Thanks for joining us for the Monthly Chat with the eBay Community team.

The chat thread will remain open until 2 PM PT at which point we'll close it from additional responses. After that time, we'll continue to work on responding to any queries that might still be unanswered.

To post your question, click Reply in the lower right corner of this post, type your question, and hit submit between 1-2 PM Pacific Time. The format of our chat mirrors the format of our Community Discussion Boards, where each post will appear in the thread chronologically. The taxAct and Community Team will review each question as it comes in, and will quote the original question in our reply. This quote and the reply will appear later in the thread, so just keep scrolling down to see our answers.

As a reminder, we want to be able to get to as many members as possible during the allotted hour, so we have a few things to ask of you:

  • Keep on topic
  • Scroll through the list of questions to see what has already been asked to decrease chances of redundancy
  • Keep the message/question simple and no more than one to two items. If you include multiple questions in a post, please be aware that they may not be addressed during the chat and (specialist name) will do their best to follow-up with it after the chat has closed

Missed the chat? Send your questions to the podcast by calling 888-723-4630 or email us at podcast@ebay.com and maybe your questions will make it on the air! Or listen to past episodes while you wait for next month!

We have been asking for this for a long time, but I'll try again: Is ebay ever going to provide us with more detailed tracking for external traffic, so we can know whether the buyer has come from, say, Google or from Facebook? Obviously, this would help those of us who try to drive traffic to ebay from social media, and I'm sure ebay has this data , so how about sharing it with your partners, the sellers?

To piggyback on this one - ever since eBay introduced External Promoted Listings in July of 2021, the reports in Seller Hub don't exactly reflect what's really going on.

Before External PL, it was not possible for a view to be both external and promoted - it had to be one or the other and so the way the graph is set up made sense.

But ever since July 2021, it is now possible for clicks to be both promoted and external and it's not at all clear how those views are handled in the graph - are they counted as external or promoted, or both or...neither?

I understand there is a csv report that can be downloaded to show external views but it's a bit ridiculous that the graph display has not been update to accurately reflect the reality of External Promoted.

I had previously been told in 2021 the ads team expected to update that graph to properly reflect External Promoted "by the end of the year" and here we are a quarter of the way through 2023 and we still don't have it.

When might we expect to see that graph updated?

This is from last year's Spring Seller Update:

Later this year, ....

We’ll also introduce a new feature that will let buyers request a bundled offer on multiple items. These multi-item offers can be completed in one transaction, saving you time and making it easier for buyers to purchase more of your items.

This was scheduled for "later this year" (2022). Has this actually launched?

I've seen no indication of it. If not, when will it launch?

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques This has not launched as of now but we can check to see if there are any updates to share. If there are we will be sure to come back and let you know.

Your next payout date @postcardcountry should show on  your Summary page on the Seller Hub under the Payments tab.

Now that you say this, I think my payout a couple of weeks ago was on a different date than Tuesday too.  But yesterday it came out on schedule.

Re: Monthly Chat - April 12th at 1:00 pm PST

Hi Devon and eBay team!

i'm new to this community, but I've been shopping on eBay for decades and selling on eBay for the last 5~6 years. My question is this:

I promote myself on social media, specifically YouTube and direct my supporters to shop at my eBay store. To help them identify my listings easily, I put my account name in the photo of my products. Since over a year ago, there's another eBay seller in China who has copied my photos with my account name and selling the similar products. I've contacted ebay on multiple occasions about this, and although I'm assured that it is against eBay policy to copy my photos and potentially impersonate me as a seller, eBay has never taken down those listings. Is this because eBay has limited options when it comes to a seller in China?

I've had many of my supporters and customers contact me telling me that they found this seller in China impersonating me and using my photos. Several of them have said they've also reported it to eBay. There have also been a few instances where someone thought the other seller was me and ended up ordering the product from that seller in China thinking they were buying from me.

Is this problem something eBay can help with? Or is the lack of action from eBay due to limited options due to the seller being in China?

Hi, I am having an issue getting an API increase limit.  I have applied for the application growth check and my application was denied.

However I am a very good customer/client of ebay and I am looking for some advice or explanation of what I can do to increase the limit?

I am given no explanation.  I have contacted ebay on facebook and ebay customer support and was told that the developer program is a different program and nobody can reach out for me?

When I talk to the developers about why I am denied they say the application growth check is a different team and they can't reach out to them for me?

I am not asking for alot of API limit and I have a strong relationship with ebay to more than justify this increase.

You are my last effort to try and figure this out,  thanks

Hey @halcyon-trading unfortunately we can't shed much light on that situation.  We can only recommend getting in touch with our developer program here.

Re: Monthly Chat - April 12th at 1:00 pm PST

elizabeth@ebay  Agree, it would be a great feature for sellers. This is why sellers have been suggesting it for longer than I care to remember. If ebay actually implemented some of these suggestions, it would be a better platform.

devon@ebay  Sigh.

Not expecting an answer, but does ebay realize  many sellers have run out of patience with ebay's promise to implement this?

Re: Monthly Chat - April 12th at 1:00 pm PST

Now that the new Social Media beta tool has been rolled out to sellers in the US, UK, Australia, and Germany - when will eBay be adding the discounted 2.5% FVF for social sharing that was promised at eBay Open in 2021?

@theartofserver

In a situation like this, what I would recommend is if you have your photos copyrighted and own the IP rights to the products you are selling as well is to go through our VeRO program. With this once the correct documentation is submitted we can take the appropriate action against the account(s) that violate those rights.

Re: Monthly Chat - April 12th at 1:00 pm PST

elizabeth@ebay  Thanks elizabeth. However, I've been on ebay for 20 plus years, and long ago discovered that "coming soon" in ebay speak is a term of enormous flexibility, which is why I asked specifically if it would be this month.

Re: Monthly Chat - April 12th at 1:00 pm PST

devon@ebay  yes, I've reached out to eBay at least twice already and provided all the information requested. yet, nothing has happened... and I never got any response back from eBay explaining why no action was taken either. it would at least be helpful to know why, even if eBay decided not to take action.
