The Daily Moose

Here is a link to Bar Mills Models on-line newspaper and information station. Art has 4 new on-line videos that you might find interesting. The first two are about Bar Mills Models itself. The next two are instructive videos. One on different types of glues and their use and the other on the new Bar Mills weathering powders. There are also pictures of some of the kits available. Enjoy. http://barmillsmodels.com/dailymoose_05A_05.html

Re: The Daily Moose

hell ya Pete. i coulda told you that years ago that the atlantic provinces are nasty of dampness.  Believe it or not, winter with -40C is easier to deal with than the up & down temps and dmapness of maritime environments.

Plus out here, once it gets cold, it stays cold. -20 C with NO wind is actually beutiful here. You can literally shovel snow without gloves as it is so dry. Plus you can dress for it out here. Dress warm and it's no so bad. Down east, doesn't matter how many layers, the dampness goes thru ya. The dampness was starting to get to me before we moved out here. The first winter is always the hardest when you experience -40s.

It was funny one March few years ago when I made a trip to PEI. Left -30s here and walked off the plane outside to the terminal in PEI with a tshirt on and carrying my jacket while everyone was bundled up. it was only -15 there.

What's funnier is I'm not from here and I will still bbq until it is so cold the propane won't flow good. ( -30 range.) People from here don't bbq in the winter.

however we're younger looking for our age than locals here. so maybe the salt air is good for ya, or it is just from the red vino over the years.

I still think the Mediteranian would be the ideal place to live.

Re: The Daily Moose

I bbq all year too. Everyone here thiks I'm nuts to use charcoal, but it will still light when the propane won't. Of course some guys bbq in their garages. I do it on the deck once I get the snow off.

I hated Florida for it's damp warm and I hate NL for it's cold damp. I just hate DAMP!!! Going to move to Calgary area where it is drier.

Re: The Daily Moose

It is raining here today, and a bit cool in the 50's (F).  I use charcoal to BBQ too, though usually not in the winter, maybe that will change since I am retired, and daylight will be available all week instead of just the weekend.

I am happy to be able to avoid most pills...

All the best,

Charles

Re: The Daily Moose

Charles, Just wait until you have to take more pills and then you can rattle just like the rest of us old geezers.  There is nothing like a whole turkey done on the Weber. This is Canadian Thanksgiving weekend and we are going to bbq the bird tomorrow. Also do the yams and squash in the bbq. Sometimes I add a few chunks of apple wood to smoke in a little flavor near the end. The neighborhood smells so good........Smiley LOL

Dave, it's Bathurst Sunday, all the super V8s doing their thing on Mt Panorama, used to be Ford v Holden now anything they can fit a V8 in is fair, could be good, usually a few bingles on the high bends.

Re: The Daily Moose

Not sure if that is the race I saw last year on tv but it was good anyways. Mind you I like aussie supercars series anyways.

We're doing our bird the traditional way aka oven. Beings I do all the bbq, oven cooked turkey gives me a break from cooking chore.

The apples wood  smoke part sounds good Pete. I will however do my part of making dressing. No box of stove top dressing crap in our house.  Can you get summer savory on the RockPete?  Up until a year ago, it was impossible to get here as it seemed to be a maritime thing. Gotta have it for dressing.

It's cold, wet and windy here so no outside chores. No railfanning either. I will be spending part of the day in the basement sniffing glue. Or in the garage spraying.

Nacar race at Charlotte tonite, so I'll see how that pans out. F1 tomorrow am. Need to check guide for the aussie race. Just need a motoGP race and I got everything covered.

Speed Junky.

Re: The Daily Moose

Savory? Are you kidding? We have one of the largest savory farms in Canada right here in St. John's, the Mt. Scio Farms. Everyone, I mean everyone here uses so much savory that the supermarkets have a whole spice rack, 3' wide by 5' tall just for the different sizes of savory available. It is available year round here. Here's a link for ya......

Re: The Daily Moose

cool beans. Might have to buy a bag from them. It'd be cheaper than a little spice jar you get  at Safeway.

Turned out there IS a motoGP race on at noon today   🙂

Nascar was so bland. no surprise. I ended up watching Dr No on another channel.

Got the F! race watched and out of the way.

Looks like the aussie V8 series may very well be taped and aired at a later date. They do that sometimes here, air it a week or 2 later.

Got some spuds peeled and bread torn up for the dressing. Can't do much more until later on. So I guess that means I will just have to do some modelling.  It is nice and sunny but will probably pass on railfanning. Sundays here can be hit or miss. Saturday mornings use to be busy enuf and now we have gone out and no traffic all morning.  Could be worse. could be living in maritimes with no trains or just intermodal train or 2 to halifax.

otherwise mostly lazy sunday around the house.

Re: The Daily Moose

A lot of derailments lately. There was an oil train derailed last month? in Sashatchewan. Just this past weekend, CN oil & LPG cars derailed 85km west of Edmonton,Alberta.  And yet people protest having a pipeline run across the states/province.

Nice to see those senators put on 2 years suspension with no pay.  Now if only they could get rid of the crack smoking Toronto mayor.

Only in Canada.

Re: The Daily Moose

No pay but they still get to keep their health care benefits and some other perks that we the people are paying for out of our pockets. They should just have been fired all together. I hope they are actually indicted for some crime.
