I think I purposely left an empty hole in a section of flex track to drive the official gold spike on the mainline. Could the gold spike be on a branchline? I still have track to lay for a mine.
I had Dr appt yesterday at the respiratory clinic at Health Sciences and Dr bumped my dosage of Viagra to double. She said I should feel a difference in the coming weeks. Got a couple of appts there in 6 weeks.
She did suggest to take walks within my capabilities.
I'm hoping the stairs won't be an issue.
Otherwise questions about my future remain for now.
At least I'm on meds finally so the fear of dropping dead is gone.

Coming back from driving wife to work and hung out at an area where there is CP tracks and overhead CN bridge. Perfect timing as in no time a CP train came along with this for an Easter Egg. I then blew my chance at good picks of the CN so I was able to beat it across the river and downtown and caught a better shot near the ball park handy the Forks. After 15 minutes of these treasures, I didn't feel the need to hang out railfanning any longer.
Worst part is I didn't check camera settings, it saved the pictures at a lower size :_| I knew something was up when I looked at them on computer and wondered why the file size was only 650KB instead of the normal 6 MB. They should print out ok in 8X10. Just woulda been nice having the best quality as in past few years only seen these ICE locos once before. And of course you need to be at the right place and right time with a camera and the sun in right direction. This shot I took is about the best conditions one could have.
-heard the horns couple blocks away
-20 mph zone at most
-right side of tracks for sun/correct viewing angle
-had camera on me

Our golden spike is in a classification yard. I don't think it matters where you put it. It just has to be the last section of track laid and the last spike. You can plan ahead to put it in a specific place if you want to. We just had the idea as I laid the last section of track.
I made a small marker for the site too and George took a picture of me driving it home.
B-)

Dave,
The photos look OK on eBay at least... Are all slugs converted regular locomotives, or are some slugs built that way? All I know is that the fate of some old Western Maryland locomotives was to become slugs (I guess better than scrap...).
All the best,
Charles

Charles, I can tell you some of the slugs were built as shunt yard assister's and were referred to as calf's, the engine they were assigned to were referred to as cows, cow with calf, most of the slugs used on the road were converted, usually wrecked, road locos that didn't have TOO much damage, usually anything that was warn out was scrapped, a lot of retired locos had parts used for newer locos, it seems it was common to take the trucks of traded locos and use them on new built locos, to me it seems odd to use warn parts on new stuff but the builders knew best, maybe.
]:)
It's like a family tree if you could track the trucks from an old GP7 to how ever many other locos it winds up on over the years, eventually used on new stuff like the GP20D Gensets.

Gee Dave, those diesels look like steamers with all that smoke.
😄
I like capturing action shots like that of locos spewing smoke. Adds to the sense of motion.

Charles, if you click on the photo each time it loads up, the picture will eventually enlarge to full screen. Not sure if you just looked at the images as a thumbnail.
Like prev comments on slugs, some used wrecked locos and weld in the cab windows or remove the cab altogether and utulize the prime mover and traction motors.
As in the case with this CN slug, it would just have traction motors and weight and gets its electrical power from the powered locomotive.
I think this was the first time I caught one in action doing local runs. Usually I see them at Symington hump yard doing switching. kinda impressive seeing them in the yard MU'ed together in a loco-slug-slug-loco configuration.

I had a wine kit that I bought over the winter and just got it started. Just what I needed to be doing, lifting the box of juice and jug of water. I'll pay for that later 😞
It's a 8 week kit so need to get it going. Way health been since March, I didn't care. It will be aged a year so wouldn't have made any difference other than ready to drink couple months sooner....next year.
Got another carboy on table that was due for racking to be stashed away too.
I enjoyed the wine hobby better when I had my health and a healthy appetite for guzzling down wine. As I get better I'm sure I'll enjoy it again. Just can't have one of those evenings of opening up a couple bottles on the patio due to meds.

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there. I expect I will not hear from my kids as usual. Hope the rest of you have more luck. Remember, today is the day that the telephone company says has the most "collect" calls made. :^O

That's too bad Pete. Mine is still living at home so I'm lucky (for now B-) ) as he has plans for me, such as taking me out for breakfast and supposedly a movie later on. (He had a good week at work for making tips so he's feeling generous).
With time difference I should call my father.

Talked to my brother yesterday and he also was not expecting to hear from is sons. Funny how much we have in common........sad on this one though.
It's their loss.

Fermentation is imminent!! Lovely smell of French red grape juice fermenting, filling the dining room. Bucket didn't puke yet from overly active fermenting yet. 😄

Funny you should mention aroma. If anyone walked into our house right now it would be obvious that there was a still in the neighborhood.......:^O Ever had a contact high?
😉

How you feeling Dave?
?:|
Still slowly improving. Drugs are working. It's a slow process but each week seems like I can do a little more. Walked around some in Costco yesterday. Even though I feel it at the end of the day and think I overdid it, It is still pretty good progress considering a month ago I wouldn't have been able to do that.
I started model building the other day. Nothing drastic but its a start. plus it was a new kit so Much of the time was spent cutting larger parts off the sprues and organizing things. 😄
Best of all I am in the mood and have been doing some small doses of railfanning for past couple weeks.
I have been driving wife to work on Thursdays at noon and spend part of afternoon at LHS. I can talk much more without getting short of breath.
