Here is a link to Bar Mills Models on-line newspaper and information station. Art has 4 new on-line videos that you might find interesting. The first two are about Bar Mills Models itself. The next two are instructive videos. One on different types of glues and their use and the other on the new Bar Mills weathering powders. There are also pictures of some of the kits available. Enjoy. http://barmillsmodels.com/dailymoose_05A_05.html

Need to upload my camera. Got a CN train with 5 locos (at the front) which is scarce these days.  Might see 5 as DPU mixed through consist.

Started out halfways sunny and by time I took pics it was clouded over so photos might be crap.

CN had a hyrail truck on trucks so not sure how busy CN was gonna be. I left due to dark clouds.

CP is doing Tie replacement on mainline west of city (in the daytime even) so that means no trains all day. And probably when they do run them bunched up tight in the evening, it is too dark for decent photography. Tie crew probably taking advantage of daylight and doing overtime.

Dave,

I did click the pictures, but I did not realize exactly what was done to produce the slugs. Years and years ago I read about the cow-calf switchers, and that the calf was just electric motors powered from the cow.  I did not realize the slugs were like that too, I thought they were just cab-less powered units operated through MU controls.

Pete,

Shame about the kids for Father's Day.  My second oldest son actually took the bunch of us out for dinner.  (We helped finance it since if is a largish crowd.)  My oldest son and his wife are having an issue or something like that and have cut themselves off from us.  Very weird, but I think it has helped our other kids realize that they love their parents and we have obligations to each other as a family.

All the best,

Charles

There is a couple exceptions to the rule on road slugs. When Santa Fe purchased new GP60M for intermodal, due to added cost of wide cab option, they ordered many GP60B (cabless slug) to cut down the cost.

BN ordered C30-7A ( I think?) they were a cables GE unit.

Can't remember if it was mentioned. some of the slugs operated at lower speeds and once up to higher speed (on mainline) the slug would cut out.

Did some trackside time after dropping wife at work. It was good to be out for 3 hours along mainlines as it's been quite a while since capturing trains at 60 mph. Got reacquainted with my camera as I found better settings, etc. Also found a great  spot to sit that's been under my nose all this time. It's downtown near the Forks beside the baseball stadium, the CN mainline is elevated and parking lot is on the correct side for morning shots when the sun is on your back.  Nothing worse than a nice location but useless due to shooting into the sun, etc.

I did not get any trains at the new location but I know it will pay off one of these mornings when it is sunny. (Tuesday?)

CP Tie gang was working Saturday also so that limited the mainline to single track  which helps bunch of rail traffic. Got some shots of a red barn (SD40F=cowl hood)) in a consist

smoking away.  I'll examine shots again and post some.

Found some old photos I took back in the early years of moving here.  Attached in my album is  some close ups of a CN cab and slug unit.

Pictures are not loading right now. I'll check in later. Is it just me or is the whole system having a hissy fit again?

Probably ebay. Every other day I have to scroll down the page to find the 'community' link as it isn't at the top where it normally is.   X-(

Today is my kid's graduation. And then he enters the real world of paying for everything himself.   ]:)

Dave,

Nice photo of the slug without the railing blocking things up.  It is an interesting effect with the short almost sleek shell of the slug trailing along behind the full locomotive.

All the best,

Charles

Still no pictures at all. I too have to scroll to the bottom to get the group tag. EBay must be "fixing" things again.

I thought you guys would have had the same notification as me on the lead page, they say as of the 1st July the forums will be read only until they update but I think they started a bit earlier, I can't get any albums at all and usually the newest photo is on the main page for our groups, as you say probably FIXING again, I wonder how they spell fix, with an fi or maybe fu.

Inlaws left this morning. son is working Sat. Everyone is off Sun and Mon. Weather is ~supposed to be decent. We should do something (within my health limitations) as my son graduated grade 12 and has a job so that means he won't want to spend much time with us. Can't believe he is done of school now and all grown up.

He took hairstyling program  from grade 9 thru 12 so he has his apprenticeship papers and is debt free (as he doesn't have to take hairstyling in college) as the vocational trades in school here are legit/full education.   😄

So now he just works towards his required apprenticeship hours to become a master stylist.
