Just a quick note.
I notice that the latest BLI (Broadway Limited Inc.) ads state their new releases are either with or without sound. Seems that some people do not like the sound that is available. Especially in HO.
Frankly, at times, with 4 engines going it can become a bit overpowering. However, there is a function that allows you turn off the sound if so desired. Once in a great while I do turn off the sound of one or two locos if they are all running, but, it doesn't last long. It seems funny after a bit to see the trains moving and not hear anything. So back comes the sound.
I guess I'm hooked. But I would strongly suggest to anyone who installs sound of any kind to their layout to use a low volume. The cacophony of too much sound will eventually get you unless it is soft and mellow.
Marc will call it moving air. My opinion is that to much of it can become a hurricane. And no, I have never had any desire, no matter what state of drunkenness I was in, to place my head inside a 1000 watt speaker. As a matter of fact, sub-woofers drive me nuts. And so do sopranos who do nothing but screech.
I believe that is why I find the On30 sound produced by QSI and Soundtraxx pleasing. Middle tones. It is all about your personal preference in this hobby, and that is why there is so much to choose from.
Model railroading is FUN!!!!!
