Railroad simulators

Haven't seen this topic in awhile, Just received Trainz Railroad Simulator 2006 for Father's Day and have been playing around with it sporadically. It just does not seem intuitive at all. I read the manual and did get some loco's and cars on the track but this program seems labor intensive to understand. Anyone have any thoughts on this or other train simulator programs? Gene

Re: Railroad simulators

It's just like a computer drafting program.....long learning curve. I know a guy here who has it and never did master it. Therefore, I haven't bothered to look into it myself. I guess it's like anything Gene. The more you play with it the more you learn. I never mastered Cad-Rail and gave it to Ernie who also gave up on it. Guess you have to be a nerdy game player to appreciate these programs. I'm not. B-)

Re: Railroad simulators

I like the odd game but I could not handle Microsoft Train Sim. It was bloody slow and boring. I just couldn't take it. I know you have to control speed limit, etc but it is boring.

Re: Railroad simulators

I have MS Train Simulator too. I played with it some, and thought it would be neat to try to recreate some of the areas I am interested in modeling. But I never had the opportunity to do much. Sierra Online many years ago made a train game that lets you operate puzzles and build layouts that look a lot like Lionel. Our 3rd son enjoys playing that game now and then. But for the realistic train sim like MS sim a 2 hour train trip still takes two hours of sitting in the cab doing not very much I guess. If you google search: Trainz Railroad Simulator 2006 you get a lot of hits, some of these may be helpful. This seems to have some info: http://pc.gamezone.com/gamesell/p27379.htm or: http://pc.ign.com/objects/748/748794.html or: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/sim/trainzrailroadsimulator2006/index.html Here is the official site: http://www.auran.com/TRS2006/index.php Some forums for online discussion that may be helpful: http://forums.auran.com/trainz/index.php http://www.razorbackrailway.com/forums/ http://www.trainzproroutes.org/forum/ http://forum.uktrainz.co.uk/ Have fun, Charles
