Look forward to seeing the boxcars when done. Once you get the hang of weathering, if it is anything like your structure building skills, we will as usual call you Master....or Professor.

I have been known as a great fisherman for years. Isn't that what a Master Baiter is?
😉
Could be, could be, maybe not LOL

Here's a dirty refer. Not too dirty because of course there is food inside and we don't want a lot of germs to attack our victuals do we.
B-)
Looks great Pete. Even mild weathering such as road grime makes a dramatoc difference in appearance and makes it all look much more realistic.

Pete,
Yeah, looks nice. Hate to say it though, it makes the plastic molded grab irons and stuff stand out, but it looks great.
Thanks,
Charles

Molded on stuff is always a problem, even without weathering. I'm not doing contest models yet, but I might in the future. Then I'll replace those fat things with wire. That's why I like On30. The grabs and ladders etc. are all applied. For now, just apply the "3 foot rule".

Pete,
I did an experiment with my Windows Live Skydrive and sent your email a Windows Live invitation of some sort.
Just to see what happens.
I have drawn more on my 1897 wooden hopper in Sketchup too, uploaded it to the Google Sketchup 3D Warehouse. Loaded still images to my Skydrive (I hope...)

Did not get anything from you at all. The link here works just fine and you are the sketchup master!

I am slowly dismantling some of my railroad. While I would love to pull up all up as one wall would be perfect for a yard (14 feet long wall, perfect for staging yard for some long trains and still have room/length for typical ladder track 'bowl' yard, and have really good capacity) Bad side to that idea is with layout of room and layout, I would need to leave the yard area open to reach turnouts, thus no wheres with enuf room to have my industrail park. (there is one area but then it would make it impossible to operate the cement plant.)
So long story longer, I am breaking my cardinal rule (wife recommended it), I am having a track leve the train room and go into recroom along the wall and loop back into another area of layout, providing continous running. Also in the recroom running with track mentioned, will be a something like 6 to 8 track staging yard. Rough estimate says the shortest ladder track would be around 6 to 6.5 feet long, longest upward of 8 feet, perfect fo storing couple coal trains, intermodal, etc.
Plus we both think it would be neat watching tv and having a train pass through along the wall.

Lucky you! If I suggested punching a hole in the wall for trains.......I'd probably have one in my head from a 45!!
You will have to do some nice cabinet work for the layout shelf.
😄

Well... I am sure I would not get a hole in my head, but I would not put holes in the wall for the railroad without getting agreement ahead of time!!
Model trains for active decorating sounds good to me!
All the best,
Charles

Got domino section along one wall totally removed and dismantled.
09-18-2011 03:07 PM
Two walls worth of dominoes removed and already one new section installed. Once done with this update, bck to garage to work on some more sections. 24"x23" and a 26"x92" section.
I am just doing the framework now, plywood surface later. This way it will be easier drilling holes and running wires from top, instead of crouched under tables in the dark.
09-25-2011 06:06 AM
another wall section dominoe built and istalled.
Got half the holes drilled in cross members (for the wiring) Today I plan to finish drilling holes and run the wiring so I can work on the plywood surface and eventyally lat track. need another lumber run so I can build the domino (shelf) for the recroom.
Spent couple hours building a 36"x20"x20" shelf unit to go under layout to store housepaint and stuff. That stuff was in my way. (can always store model kits there once/if paint is gone)
Didn't cut holes thru walls yet 😮
Whoever put up the wall separating train room from recroom had no clue about 16" stud centeDoing good to have 24"ish studs. X-(
