Progress report #2

I locked the other thread. There is some good stuff in there that probably has been reposted in other threads. I'll check. In the meantime, here's another place to write. B-)

Re: Progress report #2

Busy modeling weekend. Built an HO "Bud Smiley's Gas Station" for the tree layout and an O "Jebediah's Carriage & Wheel Repair" shop for the big layout. Both kits are Bar Mills.

Re: Progress report #2

Someday I'll stop building and take some pictures. Meanwhile, this past week I built a backwoods water tank and another passenger station for the On30. Just started the HO "Booty Corner" for the tree. This is another Bar Mills product that is a three story IGA market with a barber shop next door. It's fun shifting back and forth between scales. At least I'm not spending any money right now which makes the CFO (Kimmers) happy. I'm just finally building from my stash of kits. I might have to buy some paint soon though......hint, hint. :-D

Re: Progress report #2

You may have to build a removable domino so you can have another with a different industry or scene..just so you can continue building structures.

Re: Progress report #2

Not really. I have enough room for all the buildings I have. That was planned. Kimmers would frown upon any more expansion. I wanted to excavate under the back yard and make a sub-basement that couldn't be seen from the outside (thus avoiding a new tax appraisal), but she said I was enough of a mushroom already. Rats! I could have built a subway! ]:)

I was told if you get some polypipe and lay track in it then bury it in the yard it makes for a great subway, maybe you could try that. ]:)

Re: Progress report #2

Charles Your poles are up, what are you gonna do with them, try for real live overhead or just look like it, I don't know if there are any N trolleys that do run live pans, maybe. ]:)

Re: Progress report #2

I've got about 10 train projects on the go that I just can't seem to get finished, lately I just want to sit and watch the trains roll by, I really enjoy watching the el capitan roll around the layout I especially like the new Kato lighting, they are a very pretty blue color in these cars, apart from the passenger train I have the GP60ms dragging a spinecar train running in the opposite direction, I can just sit and watch for hours. ]:)

Re: Progress report #2

Working on a motorcycle kit so my umpteen RR projects are collecting dust. Probably like you Barry. I got ortner hoppers modified and painted and half decalled. One loco that need MU hoses and it would be done. TOFC cars painted, not decalled, etc.etc. Time to buy another dry-erase marker and board to put on wall to keep track to write down projects and then tackle them one by one to completion. I got car models in various stages.

Re: Progress report #2

Barry, Thanks! http://groups.ebay.com/photo/N-Scale-Trolley/1511532472 Yes, the plan is live overhead wire. The streetcars will need converted to run off the wire. I have a couple nice poles from a guy in Canada "Eric's Miniatures." I will have to post a couple photos of the pickup poles. Thanks, Charles -- Edited by taz-of-boyds at 04/13/2010 8:52 PM PDT

Re: Progress report #2

I'm working on a saw mill. The machinery parts are small and like a jigsaw puzzle to put together, but should look good inside the building. I'm kit bashing the thing to leave most of the sides open so the inner workings can be viewed. I mean, why put stuff inside if you can't see it? B-)

Re: Progress report #2

I have actually got the paint on one of the FP45s and am very happy with the finish, model paint was just not doing it for me, I used auto touch up spray cans and so far it looks great. ]:)

Finally got some free time and ran some of the trains. It has been a while and when one consist kept having cars derail, pulled one car off and looked through the lighted magnifying glass on the workbench and found a lot of crud on the wheels. Took all of the cars in the consist off and had to clean just about all the wheels of each car. Haven't run them in awhile and was surprised at the amount of crud build up on them. They run much better now.

Well went down stairs yesterday and looked at the other consists and decided it was time to degunk their wheels too. In the process I somehow unattached one of the couplers from the truck. It's been awhile since I had to assemble a coupler, but eventually got it all back together. It was on a passenger car (from Athern I believe). I used the rail brush that you place on the rails and then turn up the power and place the loco on it to clean several loco's wheels. It works well and saves time. One more consist to go and I'll be done.

Re: Progress report #2

Truth be known, you'r building Eagles Nest because it was an awsome railroad and besides you've got most of the rolling stock. ]:)
