Progress report #2

I locked the other thread. There is some good stuff in there that probably has been reposted in other threads. I'll check. In the meantime, here's another place to write. B-)

Re: Progress report #2

No I got sidetracked with other things in life. It is now April and I still haven't ordered a carpet kit for my car. Plus occupied with emailing out resumes. Trying to make a fast exit for a new career.

Re: Progress report #2

I've posted some of the pics of the GP60M build, I will post another when it is finished. ]:) I like the green color........]:) The lovely green is squadron green filler, I can't get any squadron white so I have to keep sanding with finer and finer wet or dry paper, just as well I paint cars from time to time, I nearly always have paper on hand. ]:) -- Edited by ginzokid at 04/19/2009 4:56 AM PDT -- Edited by barrysfp45 at 04/19/2009 5:22 AM PDT

Re: Progress report #2

Use fine wire for grab irons if the original plastic ones don't line up on the modified cab. Should look good when its done. I have a low nose GP60 too that will one day be converted to the GP60B. I am using the finest brass wire I can get, the plastic ones went with the sanding the front smooth, I thought about trying to shave them off and reglue them but there is virtually no sobstance to them. ]:) -- Edited by barrysfp45 at 04/19/2009 4:45 PM PDT

Re: Progress report #2

I want to do a GP60B as well, I actually think JnJ trains has a resin shell for the GP60B I might have to have a look and then see if I can persuade someone over there to buy it for me, I can look at the site but can't contact them for some reason. ]:)

Re: Progress report #2

I had a look at the JnJ site, they now have a GP60M shell displayed and the B shell was due for release in 2007 but the site has not been updated since 2006, I'm sure the M shell wasn't available before, maybe I'm wrong anyway I have tried to contact them again and this time the email didn't bounce, so far at least, just have to wait and see I guess, I will let you know the outcome. ]:)

Re: Progress report #2

I primered the cab and sat it on just to see what it looks like, and took a couple of photos so you could see as well, next photo will be the finished product. I haven't heard back from JnJ yet, I wonder MMMMMMMMM ]:)

Re: Progress report #2

Unprogress report. my layout is going the other direction. I tore up the majority of the area that I wanted to redo. Filled up a garbage bag. wow. I wasn't even sad hving to do it. I think it ate at me for the past year of not completely happy with it. There was a couple areas where locos would hang up on or derail. Plus it will look better and larger (eventually)

Re: Progress report #2

I painted the cab, unfortunately the paint is past it's use by date and came out not very nice, instead of stripping it I built another cab, a little different but better I think, I ordered more bits so I can build the GP60B and got extra grab irons for this cab, I am happier with this one and the hobby shop in Melbourne I deal with had one bottle of scalecoat Santa Fe red, lucky for me, I don't have to get someone over there to get it for me this time. Dave if you do decide to build a GP60B you will need an Atlas SD60M body and sill to have all the right fitting pieces for the build, I know, I measured every engine I have and this is the one to get, I will let you know about it when I start, soon I hope LOL. ]:)

Re: Progress report #2

I picked up some snadpaper for the orbital sander so I will clean up the old glue and reminants of cork roadbed on my layout. Still thinking about the rest of indust park layout. I have a Nu-Lines Structures modern warehouse but I am not sure if there is a spot that will 100% work for it due to it's required footprint, Bldg dimension plus parking area for trailers at loading bay. Back to the drawing board. At least the current setup will allow my indust park to have a street or 2 and have more than low relief bldgs, and not so compressed for space. While the park won't be jam packed with businesses, There will be a few and space enough to give that insustrial sprawl feeling and I like to think the end product will give you the illusion that it is much larger. The old setup didn't do any of that. So for no track laid or bldgs planted, and just a basic idea in my head, I'm off to a good start. heheh. I would like to try to keep the main street on an angle to make the park look larger, but need it to be gridlike somewhat as I don't want a street look like it doesn't go anywheres. To the workshop.

Re: Progress report #2

So Dave, where do you get snadpaper and what do you do with it??????? ]:) Gees, Barry! Don't you know notin? You snad with it! I get mine at Chrome Hippo.... ]:) -- Edited by ginzokid at 05/04/2009 4:17 AM PDT That explains why it doesn't fit my sander, I bought the wrong stuff, I didn't buy sand paper. Wait til I lose my marbles and forget to dress myself. -- Edited by dl85vette at 05/04/2009 2:17 PM PDT So maybe you can save the snad paper and use it for gravel roads........and thanks for remining me about the clothing. I have to go grocery shopping today...... ]:) -- Edited by ginzokid at 05/05/2009 3:48 AM PDT

Re: Progress report #2

Got most of my ripped up area sanded. I have one corner left to tear up rigid foam, cork roadbed, and sand it all. Boxed up some freight cars for time beings. and stood there thinking on where to put industry spurs. While under neat last night bolting the new section, I started to get disgusted with my wiring underneath the ripped up area. Beings I have to run some new feeders as mainline will be relocated somewhat, then I may build a new power distribution block. arrgggg. What did I get myself into? It will be better in the end. (that's right, I'm on the right track)

Re: Progress report #2

I started decaling the GP60M today, looks good so far, the GTI trailers are stunning, seems funny though, 4 years waiting for the decals and there is not a real lot to see, just a stripe and the GTI lettering but I'm happy ;\ ]:)
