Progress report #2

I locked the other thread. There is some good stuff in there that probably has been reposted in other threads. I'll check. In the meantime, here's another place to write. B-)

Re Progress report #2

Just looked at the cars I have receieved and both Pete and Dave are right, the Fonts are different and heavier than the rest and both the PEI and NB cars do not have the extra low profile wheels in the box. Awaiting Pete's call to MT for the reasoning. Jack -- Edited by jamajack at 11/07/2007 1:39 PM

Re Progress report #2

Here's the question and answer I received today: Dear Mr. Catalano, Thank you for your email here which includes comments & questions regarding our N scale series commemorating the 13 Canadian Provinces and Territories. We have people attending the annual Trainfest convention in Milwaukee WI, so it’s possible that your un-returned phone message was directed to one of our staff at this show. Regarding your question on font style(s) used on each of the Canadian releases, we opted to not restrict ourselves to just one font for each and every one of the releases. Sorry to hear you don’t like the choice of font used on the most recent two releases. Your email has been forwarded to our Creative Services Dept so they can review your feedback firsthand. Concerning the lack of the second, loose set of wheels in these recent releases, please note about 12 months ago, Micro-Trains made the business decision to cease include the loose set of low profile wheels in each and every one of our monthly releases. In consideration to those modelers that prefer the low profile wheels we established a new, lower, retail price for our bulk pack of low profile wheels. We appreciate your interest, patronage and feedback very much. Best regards, Micro-Trains OK folks. If you are of the same mind, meaning all 3 or 4 of us Canadian collectors of this series, send in your displeasure with the change in font. Unless you actually like it. I prefer to have the font etc. not change in the middle of a series. Did they do it for the States series? How about the on going Navy series? No! It's just crap on we Northern Eskimos again. Why? I'm going to ask them why they decided to change the font. just a whim? At leastthey answered, but in a typical non-responsive way. TheMadFadda -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: peter catalano Sent: Wednesday, November 07, 2007 3:35 PM To: mtl@micro-trains.com Subject: Questions about the Canadian series Dear Sir, We have nioticed there is a difference in the font used on the last two Canadian series collectors boxcars. Can you explain this? And also, the last two cars did not come with the optional low profile wheels included. Why would you change things in the middle of a series? I represent a large group of collectors thru Ebay and would appreciate an explanation of these changes. The original font on the cars was beautiful. The last two cars have a very plain bold font. We don't like it at all. Sincerely, Peter Catalano PS: I made a phone call to you earlier today to which you have not responded. Your choice; phone or email, but please answer these questions

Re Progress report #2

I just sent this to MT: I have collected the States series and others with no chage to the font or anything else. Why would you decide to change the font in the Canadian series on a whim? Are you going to correct it and reissue the two cars done so far with the flat bold ugly font? You changed the color of the locomotive due to customer input. How about doing the same for the cars? Re Progress report #2

Bought a few pieces of flex track so I can add some more turnouts to the upper yard. Took in a half dozen rolling stock for consignment. Just a few cars that aren't favorites or really needed and could do without. Down to 4 coil cars instead of 5. got rid of an Illinois Central Gulf 40' boxcar. Probably could get rid of the other one once I get some new rolling stock that still had rapidos. (not parting with mag couplers on the consignment pieces)

Remember those steam sound units I bought for the coffee table layout? Well today I put one to good use for the tree layout. I built a baffle box out of balsa and hooked the thing up to the new el cheapo. It sounds great and Prin is now taking an interest in the passing engine. She sniffs and than watches it go around a couple of times before she sniffs the caboose.....oh, well. She is a dog you know! At least she hasn't nosed it off the tracks yet. Kim got a kick out of it tonight when she came home. Her comment is always: "Now what have you done to it?" B-)

Re Progress report #2

Went thru my collection again and parting with a few cars I can live without. I'm gonna take them to LHS for consignment. I take a hit on commission but saves me time photographing and listing them on ebay. Plus it circulates some unique stuff here. ( I would be better off selling on ebay for profit wise) I just figured by this way I build up store credit. When I get back from middle east in feb, anything unsold will go on ebay and hopefully regain some cash. the deals I got last summer on a Kato BNSF SD70 and I/M SP SD40T-2 still haven't sold at LHS.Plus the price to offset my cost + their commsision is steep considering the dollar is par now. My locos are $90 at LHS which is a good price for new loco up here, but when you can get it off ebay for 65 USD which is now 65 Cdn. If LHS can sell themn I will still break even.

Re Progress report #2

Today I finished the base, the wall staining and weathering and the window painting on the HO station. They will all have to dry overnight before I can start to assemble the walls. Oh, I also used Canopy glue to make the window glass. It works well in N scale, we'll see in HO. I use acetate in O scale though. Is your head spinning? Mine is! So many different scales......FUN! :^O
