Progress report #2

I locked the other thread. There is some good stuff in there that probably has been reposted in other threads. I'll check. In the meantime, here's another place to write. B-)

I can't even run 40 cars realistically so that's why I don't sneeze at the accumates. I'm guessing my RR will see 15-25 lengths max. Without fancy switching movements, my inbound track can handle 14/15 cars (50 footers) dave

Rapidos don't come apart with 100 car trains. Nuff said Doug

When I had the old N scale layout one of my fun things to do was double-head two Big-Boys and hook up 80 or so MT 40ft billboard reefers. No separation there either. The best part was backing that many cars into the yards with its sweeping curved throat through the switches with nary a derailment. :D

I never cease to be impressed by you guys and your air brushes. Chuck should love that engine. Meanwhile I'm still working on that station. Doing the windows today. B-)

Some pics to be ok'd of some of the progress on my layout. Am using a new camera so I hope things come out ok. Also the picture depicting the confluence of railroads is mislabeled as the mine area. Couldn't figure out how to rename it. Gene

Gene, Two things. In the depot picture it looks like there is a huge kink in the track where it comes off the bridge and connects to the track in front of the depot. Is that a camera trick or should you investigate that joint? I do not know what your new camera is, but it looks like the flash (I'm assuming here) is washing out the foreground of some of your shots, like the one showing all the bridges and the beach one with that white sand. Maybe you can adjust the white balance on the camera or light the scene differently without the flash. I have found that my Fuji has a tendency to wash out some shots if I use the flash also. Most of what I post is without any flash any more. Just two suggestions. B-)

Pete, No problem with any trains going over that part. It's not as bad as the picture makes it look. I also made the order board you see in the depot picture after an article in Model Railroader mag. Though I used different parts than the article did it gave me the dimensions and ideas. I see I need to straighten out the down rod though. The pictures didn't turn out too bad for the first time using the Fujifilm F650 6 MP 35-180mm with 3 inch LCD. Beside an auto setting it also has Macro and Supermacro and 10 different scene programs along with shutter and aperture priority all for $98.00 I can turn the flash off and probably should have, but I just wanted to see how the pictures look at the lowest ( email and web)setting. I got it for taking snaps and quick photos so I don't always have to carry the big gun DSLR with the 22-55, 35-135 and 75-300 IS lenses, the teleconverter and filters and big flash. Sometimes I need to travel light! Thanks Jack for the approval. Gene

I actually spent most of yesterday in the basement. I put the shingles on the roof of the newest train station and installed the missing windows. Maybe my interest isn't dead after all. B-)

started playing with my walthers 3in1 kit. I am making a 3 story bldg and on an angle from that one will be a 2 story. The 3 story will be low relief (inch and a bit) and the angled bldg will be almost completely 3d. This are to beef up my brewery facility to turn it into more of a complex than the original concept of micro-brewery. This will justify heavier traffic making it a fun switching job. I can run tank car for CO2 (or whatever it is for pressurising the cans) corn sweetener or liquid sugar, etc that breweries use, grain car, incoming box cars for cardboard boxes and cans/bottles, outgoing boxcars full of beer. I guess no matter how big I build this complex, beings it is N scale, it will always be a micro brewery :^O

Now I have to figure out what will be my next project. Do I start the big Bar Mills hotel kit or the copuntry store or the wooden water tower or the ghost town buildings or do I do some building of the foam scenery base for the town? Decisions, decisions, decisions. How do you build an access hole from the inside out? B-)
