Progress report #2

I locked the other thread. There is some good stuff in there that probably has been reposted in other threads. I'll check. In the meantime, here's another place to write. B-)

Re: Progress report #2

I have recently added to my 3D drawings with a rendition of the Micro Trains 1173 Buckeye Truck:

I have used this to check fit and clearance for the heavy duty flatcar I drew some time ago, so I hope to fix the drawing to be printable on Shapeways.  The drawing of the truck is here (in theory):

Re: Progress report #2

Getting a little more done on my inventory (I have a few items to finish this go around, then on to other things for a while then back to this and a chance to look at the Trainman Pro system).  I am having a little fun with the photos, I made a poor man's backdrop for this one:

I take a couple "action" shots now and then of my trains while taking the inventory photos.

All the best,

Charles

Re: Progress report #2

Glad to see that one of us is still active. I'm still building structures for the tree layout. Last one should be finished this week and then I'll have to line them all up to see if they actually will fit on a 7 foot long shelf. Then I have to figure out how to attach this shelf to the front of the tree layout. Lots of planning to do.

Re: Progress report #2

Been on my hands and knees (ouch!) under the layout wiring in a couple of tortoise switch machines to automate  the two reverse loops. Even with knee pads I'm sore.

Re: Progress report #2

Pete,

You should put some of those colorful 2' interlocking 1/2" thick or so foam rubber squares on the floor, at least you can get a little more cushioning that way.  We have some in part of our basement at the one house, they are nice to exercise on.

Are the reverse loops working the way you want?

All the best,

Charles

Re: Progress report #2

I have two thick portable cushioned stadium seats that I use along with my knee pads. It's age, you know.

One reverse loop is working. The second one is awaiting a new PSX-AR from Tony's Trains. It is in the mail, but I am all ready for  it now.

Time to get serious about scenery now.

Re: Progress report #2

Second reverse loop is now wired in and it is kinda kool to have the ability to "rail fan" if I want to just sit back and let the train do its thing. I have found that the automatic switch orientation does give a few problems for the yard switcing, but that only will make the operations planning more interesting. Now I must really get to the scenery.

Re: Progress report #2

Change of plans. Switching was  becoming a problem with no manual over ride to the auto reverser. So I went looking for some way to solve the problem and found it right in the instructions for the PSX-AR. Simple two push button circuits and now I can control the reverse loop turnouts automatically or manually. I guess it is true. When all else fails........read the instructions.

Re: Progress report #2

My Seivers bench work lumber arrived and I put it together yesterday. Unfortunately they sent the wrong size cross members, which they will replace free of course. Meanwhile, as you can see from the pictures, the 18" x 6' which it is supposed to be is actually 20" wide. But you can get the idea of how the proper framing will support the 18"x24" Gator board pieces that will be the base. This thing will go in front of the tree layout.

Re: Progress report #2

While waiting for my replacement bench work to arrive I have been building a few automobiles in both HO and O scale. Plastic Jordan kits for the HO which almost make me go blind with the small parts and Berkshire Valley and Wheel Works metal kits for the O scale which require a lot of filing, paiting and filling. Assembly is with CA glue for the most part on those metal kits. I have to do something to keep my hands busy.

Re: Progress report #2

Wood arrived yesterday. You know what I will be doing for a while now. Also received my new BLI 2-8-8-2 Mallet in N&W livery. What a beauty she is. HO of course, DCC w/sound and it even smokes. Now I have two monster engines. This and the 2-6-6-6 Blue Ridge VGN. I can run these on the On30 layout but they look better on the HO club layout. Time to get the old screw driver out........Smiley Wink

Quick progress report. Blocked out the building arrangement on the gatorboard. Excuse the shaky pics. I did not use a tripod. Better pics later as I go along.

Re: Progress report #2

Wow./ been a while since I was here.  I guess my progress is just the fact of logging in here to poke my head in.  I've been very bad with my lack of RR modelling. Been so consumed since last winter finishing models for contest and then soon as that was over I was gung ho to start some new bike models. Need to find a btter place to store the boxes of kits in progress so I can work on my industrial park dominoe.

Manitoba Megatrains was here last month. Big train and hobby show. Worst year ever for vendors selling N scale. There was some n scale but nothing I wanted. Most of it was the crappy old atlas stuff.  I ended up buying a CP Rail boxcar off a buddy there as I don't have a CP boxcar.

Been doing a bit of railfanning/photograghy while the weathr is still warm(ish)

Currenty watching practice rounds of Moto GP at Philip Island, Australia.  Are you glued to the telly Barry?

the ghost of N scale past.

No Dave round and round does nothing for me, quarter mile is more what I like to watch, used to do a bit years back now, but to each their own, enjoy anyway.
