Paypal and Ebay Spoofs

Careful everyone! There is a new round of spoofs appearing. The latest is a Paypal one telling you your credit card is about to expire and providing a link. We all know not to click on that right? Send it off to spoof@paypal so it can be traced. B-)

Re: Paypal and Ebay Spoofs

I've never had any problems with Ebay. One guy I know had some issues but I think he brought it all onto himself. He loses his password, he moves so needs to change address, paypal won't do it 'cause he doesn't know his password. He then tried cancelling his account, still can't do that without knowing your password. So he said after that he'd pay with M.O and send it registered mail. The extra fees he'd pay is rediculous. cost of registered mail and buying a M.O through bank. If buying something at $1000, it'd be fine. But to buy a $20 car and then 10 bucks for fees. He was surprised that I did not have any negative experience with ebay/paypal. I guess you're only as smart as your actions.

Re: Paypal and Ebay Spoofs

You are so right Dave, I too have never really had any real problems, I like the paypal thing as far as being covered, I have had to claim twice and was happy with the outcome, I tried the MO bit early and yes with the extra bull you have to put up with it's just not worth it, surely your friend would have used a password that was the thing he should be able to remember easily or like me last week, I bought some parts from Atlas recently, you have to login and the password I thought I used wouldn't register the next time I tried, so I reentered my details and the confuser couldn't accept them as that email account was already recorded, please login with the correct password, guess what I resubmitted with my other email address and wrote the password down, I may never need it again but incase I do I have it on paper LOL. ]:)

Re: Paypal and Ebay Spoofs

Well as I stated in another thread here, I am still using a USPS money order to purchase on Ebay. They have relaxed that Paypal only and allow the buyer to request paying by money order and also let the seller agree to take one. That is the only way I still buy from Ebay. The thing is that not all sellers are aware that this can be done. I purchased a few MTL cars this way and am watching a couple of others. As the saying goes, it does not hurt to ask because sellers can not openly advertise that they do take another form of payment. Lou

Re: Paypal and Ebay Spoofs

Lou The only two problems with money orders is there is a whole lot more time consumed between buying and recieving and the seconds is it costs more to get and post, for me it adds at least $15 to $20 to the deal, paypal is instant and you pay exactly the end price, my thoughts anyway. ]:) Just a note here Barry. I get free MOs from my bank. You are right about the time and added postage just to mail the payment though, although it is only a stamp's cost for me. Remember Marc? He only uses MOs. never Paypal. Re: Paypal and Ebay Spoofs

What's ebay doing to shipping charges? One of my fave sellers is advertising in is auctions that he is leaving ebay end of the month. SOmehting to do with how ebay is dictating how shipping charges are to be done up or soemthing. What can they do now? I mean just what is ebay doing to shipping charges? I haven't had any "instructions" from ebay with my new auctions. Sounds like the seller is just tired of ebay rules. B-) Me too ]:) -- Edited by ginzokid at 05/19/2009 3:30 AM PDT -- Edited by barrysfp45 at 05/19/2009 5:02 AM PDT No apparently in june thereabouts there is somehting to do with the way shipping is combined or done up in the invoice. eITHER Way I'll keep an eye on buddy's auctions on his own site. Mind you with me getting out very soon I will be taking an auction hiatus until cash flow begins to e regular. After all, in reality I do NOT need more rolling stock. prob got three times as much as what I can fit on layout. -- Edited by dl85vette at 05/23/2009 5:22 PM PDT

Re: Paypal and Ebay Spoofs

I think it may have something to do with offering the gurantee that Paypal does on all shipments. That is what I understood in the My Message from ebay. It could mean that more sellers will leave ebay or just pass the increase cost to the buyers, like normal. Also the Doctor's only found minor blockage in my heart and did not clear it. My Doctor this Tuesday will explain it to me as to why. Relaxed and my breathing seems to be getting better also. So I hope to be a little more active with my railroad as slowly restart my rebuilding of it. Thanks for your thoughts and look forward to being more active in the group. Lou

Re: Paypal and Ebay Spoofs

Warning! There is a new pishing scam going on in Ebay. I received an email from Ebay saying there was a problem with a payment dispute. Well, I copied the auction number down and plugged it into the ebay search box and it appears to be a legitimate auction that was completed, but not by me. DO NOT REPLY to this email if you get it! All this "seller" is doing is mining for your ebay information. Forward the email to spoof@ebay.com and let them deal with it.

Re: Paypal and Ebay Spoofs

I know who I have dealt with usually and if by any chance I got one of these I would simply send it on to the spoof team, I never delete any won emails until I have the goods in my hand and am happy everything is good including feedback, I don't get many scam emails, maybe because of where I am. ]:)

Re: Paypal and Ebay Spoofs

Not paypal or ebay but a Craigs list problem. I have a bicycle exercise stand up for sale on Craigs list and received a request from a guy in California to give him my address, phone, and email so he could wire me money to pay for the item. I quoted him a shippiong price. He then said he would send me a "cashier's check" in a much larger amount which I was supposed to deposit into my bank account (you can see where this is going), take the money for my stand and wait to be contacted by his "agent" who would take the rest of the money to purchase a car locally and deliver it back to him in California. Whew! Long story. Why does he have an "agent", does he plan on getting my bank account number from the endorsement, why buy a car in Newfoundland and many more questions come to mind. This has to be a poor attempt to steal my identity. Today I told him the item was sold and it could be soon. I have been contacted by a local resident who is interested. Let's be careful out there! B-) ________________________________________________ I have used craiglisst and so has a good friend of mine many times. We both get these messages alot as well as some other ones. We turned them into the FBI and even they don't really care. Best we patrol ourselves and sharing info here is a good thing. Thanks Pete, you beat me to it! -- Edited by crazyd37 at 07/30/2009 12:02 PM PDT

Re: Paypal and Ebay Spoofs

HMMMMMMMMMMMMM sounds like you chose the right course, I don't believe some of these jerks, I had a DVD player for sale a couple years back as a buy now, I sold??? it and was told to send it to Kenya and once it was actually posted to let them know the tracking number and they would then pay me, yea right as if that was gonna happen ebay didn't even have a registration address for the jerks, needless to say I got the commission returned and thanked for letting ebay know so quickly, they are out there always... ]:)
