I bought some peoples, WS type, for the layout and some CA glue at half the price I pay in Canada. Couldn't find much else to stir my desire to spend money in the local shops. What a shame. Maybe on-line is still the answer.
I went to the supposed largest hobby shop in the world, their claim, and was sorely mistreated as a customer. I asked them to run a new Athearn N scale Challenger for me and the clerk said I must be kidding. I said if he wanted me to spend $382 he damn well better run it for me. Well, after he begrudgingly cleaned the stock off his test track, the damn thing ran so fast, even on DCC that he couldn't control it. And the sound....totally crappy as far as I am concerned. You just can't make a small speaker sound good, the thought I have had all along. I wouldn't waste my money on one. Mostly because the sound is weak. I like my shake the walls speakers in the O scale stuff.
