Just received a new kit, Northeastern laser cut coal tower in N scale, which is made in California. This is a totally wooden kit. No metal parts at all.
On the outside of the box is a sticker which says, "Warning: This product contains chemicals which are known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm."
OK, we have all seen that warning before. Especially on cigarette packs and most glues we use.
But here is the kicker. Inside the box was a buff colored sheet with the following on it, "Warning: You can create dust when you cut, sand, drill or grind materials such as wood, paint, metal, plastic, concrete, cement or other masonry. In addition, other processes that alter the physical properties of a material, such as soldering, heating, spraying. etc. generate vapors or other types of chemical exposure. This dust or vapor often contains chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm."
WOW! I think we all better quit right now! Maybe we should all invest in those glass cases with the two arm holes in them to build our models. You know. The kind used in medical research. I think I'll just keep wrapping myself in plastic wrap with a dust mask, eye goggles and ear plugs. It's cheaper.
B-)
