Help please

I'm looking for a Kato SD40 or SD40-2 body with dynamic brake blister, I only need the long and short hoods no walkway or cab, maybe some one has a damaged shell or a project that came to a stand still, any help will be greatly appreciated. ]:)

Re: Help please

Barry Kato has on their website a couple of sd40-2 shells on their site for $32.00. Would assume they will ship to you, contact them. Here is one of their web pages with the parts numbers, there are two different shells--BN/CN and ATSF/BNSF listed under the mid production heading. http://search.cartserver.com/search/search.cgi?cartid=s-1078&keywords=NSD402MID&maxhits=100&go=List+... Re: Help please

Jack Thanks, I don't know if these will fit the early frame though, I may have to pull one of the Santa Fe engines apart and check, I'll let you know. ]:)

Re: Help please

with a bit of modifying, it will fit and it also gives me ditch lights, gonna be a CP SD40A when it's finished. ]:) -- Edited by barrysfp45 at 07/04/2008 7:15 PM PDT

Re: Help please

As I missed the snoot shell I went to the kato site and bought two of the shells, I will end up with a pair of CP SD40As instead of AC4400s, I'm still thinking about one of the red barn shells as well, but as long as I end up with two engines is fine with me. ]:)

Re: Help please

Barry. I sure would like to see that engine when finished and see how you added ditch lights to it. Thanks. Chuck

Re: Help please

Chuck I will post some pics when they are done, for now I am waiting for the shells, paint and decals to arrive, all coming from the states so who knows when it will be done,I am using the new release SD40-2 shells and they have ditch lights as part of the standard fitting, I do know someone who got some white metal cast ditch lights and drilled them and used optic fibre to make them light, they wern't bright but did look good on the front of a Kato SD45. does anyone know if Kato advise when they ship or is it just wait for the surprise, I usually order stuff through the hobby shop I deal with but they had only just placed an order and I would have to wait at least 6 weeks before the next order, I am really looking forward to building these engines. ]:)

Re: Help please

The shell I ordered from Kato arrived today and the one I ordered through the hobbyshop is in Australia as of Tuesday, so now I start modifying a couple of frames to take these shells, soon I'll have my pair of SD40As to haul my CN/CP wheat train ]:)

Re: Help please

Dave Yea I did, the pics are great, thank you, I moved the video to another folder and sort of lost it, I knew I had something to watch but couldn't remember where I put it, now you remind me I think I know where it is LOL. ]:) I just watched it, how cool is that, was there more than 60 cars on the train? ]:) -- Edited by barrysfp45 at 07/16/2008 5:31 PM PDT

Re: Help please

My camera is older so it will only record 60 seconds at a time. and then a movie that long takes a several seconds to process/save so I didn't bother recording again as i would have lost a good 20-20 seconds in between clips. And Yes, the train was more than 60. the camera stops before the train does. pretty much all the train going thru here are 90-110 cars in length. (usually like 103 thereabouts. counted one train once at 113 cars.) See how nice those wide nose diesels look hauling intermodal and grain cars. Pick yourself up a wide nose golden beaver CP.

Re: Help please

because we have a lot of climbs on the main here, two engines drag 56 cars only, still looks impressive going through a deep cutting, I sit at the level crossings and watch them go through whenever I can, most people turn around and head for the nearest bridge. ]:)
