Updates no longer support working devices

TWENTY THREE YEARS

That's how long I have shopped on ebay.

And now my perfectly good phone can't be updated because support for android 8 is removed.

Well, ebay, guess who will be losing a loyal customer.

And don't forget that today's pensioners are now tech savvy so a ddos is fully possible or maybe we drop a trojan into your inboxes.

This forcing functional devices into the scrap is worse than driving a diesel car or leaving your heating on all day so your cat stays warm.

Time to buy a new phone unfortunately. My phone is getting old too. I have an S10 + .Not sure what you use your phone for but could be a security risk especially if banking. Another option, although probably a pain is to go on your browser and go on the website directly.

If this is the first time in 23 years the app doesn't work, you've had a good run.

Just use the browser and go to the site.

Have a great day.

I just bumped into the same problem with my Samsung S8, that I bought used for next to nothing, with a broken screen which I replaced for a new one.

My initial reaction was a mix of anger, rage, fury and a sense that all is lost for mankind. However, after recalling that I uninstalled the Ebay app recently to avoid browsing and buying stuff on impulse, I should now thank the Ebay management and phone manufacturers for their artificially programmed obsolescence policy.

By ensuring I cannot install the app, I will save A LOT of money by not purchasing stuff that I don't really need and usually end up reselling for a cheaper price. Therefore I'll only use the desktop site when I really need it, and stay away from ebay when I'm using the phone.

I hope that by the time I switch to a refurbished Android 10 phone, the app will be again blocked from installing it on such devices.

You can still use Ebay on your phone, just go to the site using the web browser.

Have a great day.

For iOS 16 or later and Android 10 or later, follow the instructions here: How to update your eBay app

For older systems running iOS 15 or Android 9 or earlier, you can access eBay from a web browser on your device. Delete the eBay app so links open in your browser instead of the app.
