Why is Ebay taking taxes when they are not selling anything? Isn’t it the sellers responsibility to charge taxes?

Taxes

Whether taxes are due and who collects them depends upon the law in the state the item is being shipped to. Many states have recently passed Marketplace Facilitator Laws to require online markets such as eBay to collect such taxes as it is easier for each state to keep track of a few large public markets than millions of small sellers.

Taxes

@dragonlist   If you had your own web site and it was just YOU who sold there the answer would be yes.  Selling on eBay means you are using their venue so THEY collect and remit the sales tax.
