Status of messages/notifications not synced between app and website

When I see notifications or read new messages on the website, these are still displayed as new/unread in the iOS app. Same way the other way round. When I see notifications or read messages in the iOS app, they are still displayed as new/unread on the website. This is annoying. Why can't that state be synced? When I read an e-mail on my phone, its status is also read in my desktop client and on the website of my mail provider and when I read it one on that website, its also displayed as read on my phone. I would expect the same behaivor of the ebay iOS app. Currently I have to read every message twice and take note of every event twice just because I use both, the app and the website from time to time.
