Need older version of eBay app it says...

Keep getting a message to update but I can’t as we have an old iPhone 6 Plus. Messages say we can download old version., but when I go to the App Store, I don’t see an older version.  I can’t update IOS to 13 or latest , so a solution of updAting to the latest IOS is not achievable

with my phone.  I don’t have the $$ to purchase a new phone and the old app worked fine up to this point.  Where is the old version the app is referring to? I’ll use that version.

The old version has been replaced by the newest version, the App store doesn't keep old versions of apps.

If you can't afford a new phone then perhaps using your phones web browser will be an option.

iPhone 6 is old and unsupported so you won't be able to download the eBay app. As ebooksdiva suggested, you'll need to use your phone's web browser to access eBay.

You might run into some tech issues even using the website since your device is unsupported. Same will happen for other sites and apps, not just eBay.

Unfortunately tech ages pretty quickly and once a device is no longer supported, it's upgrade or lose function.

Oct-Nov typically offers deals leading up to holiday. eBay often features deals on refurbished phones. Perhaps you'll find something in your price range @amofct .

My phone web browser doesn’t function well at all.  When I try to use it, pages don’t refresh and I’m looking at a white screen.  I’m looking for the older version of the eBay app from the message pop up?  Was the pop up misinformation and it doesn’t exist?

It's not possible to access older versions of the app. Honestly, even if you could download it, it wouldn't function any better than that non-functioning web browser.

That's what happens with a 10 yr old phone.

My phone web browser doesn’t function well at all.

Try a different browser, preferably the latest version of a popular browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Opera.

It sounds really frustrating dealing with that message. Unfortunately, many apps are no longer compatible with older iOS versions, which is why you’re running into this issue on your iPhone 6 Plus. While the message suggests downloading an older version, it's often up to the app developers to keep those versions available in the App Store, and many remove them over time.

One thing you could try is checking your Purchased section in the App Store. If you’ve previously downloaded the app, there might be an option to download the last compatible version. Go to the App Store > Tap on your profile picture > Purchased > Find the app and try downloading from there.

In the meantime, if you're using apps for shopping, you could try accessing their websites through your phone’s browser. Some of the best shopping apps also have mobile-friendly sites that work just as well as their apps! Hopefully, one of these suggestions helps you out.

Hey @amofct! The Product team wanted to reach out and offer some assistance on this:

Thanks for reporting this. If your device has iOS 15 you should still be able to get a version of the app that will run on your device
  1. Delete your ebay app
  2. Go to the App Store, search for ebay
  3. When you download it you will see this alert, tapping download should allow you to get a version that will run on your device.

Yikes!  Apparently, you didn't read my post, specifically the part about not being able to update to IOS 13 or latest, so no way to get to IOS 15.  The solution for now is to use a PC for ebay and eventually buy a new phone.  It appears that the app default message of "downloading an older version" is bogus!  There is no older version!  That misguidance of "...an older version" should be removed from the pop-up!

I’m having the same problem-anyone know what I can do? Buying a new iPhone is a bit extreme to still be able to use eBay-shame, used it for years.

According to a post on the UK community boards, the latest version of the eBay app requires Android 10 or later, or iOS 17 or later.

If you cannot upgrade your operating system or find an older version of the app that works with your current operating system, you should still be able to use a browser to go to ebay.co.uk instead.

If eBay browser links are opening in the Android version of the app automatically, you can disable that by going to your device Settings: Apps: eBay: Open by default: Opens supported links and choosing "Don't open in the app". iOS users can tap and hold an eBay browser link and choose "Don't open in the app".

The main problem is that eBay sends messages and offers on the iPhones because of the eBay app on the phone and when one clicks on it takes you straight to the app that no longer lets one go any further.
So there's no easy way to view it on the browser. The bright spark on eBay did not bother to think about the thousands of eBay user wit the older iOS version phones. I'm wondering if he might have conflicting interest in the matter so the iPhone sales can increase sales on eBay. eBay needs to sort things out if they want to use their up on all phones.

Or delete the app entirely if you do not plan to upgrade the operating system.
