Some quick things to try that might help:
Make sure you have the latest version of the eBay app (5.42.0.8).
Try restarting you device, or signing out of your account and signing back in.
If that does not help, you could try uninstalling the eBay app, restarting your device, and then re-installing the app from the Google Play Store. Restarting should ensure that you get a clean install.
In the mean time you should be able to check your messages using a browser.
