I was asked to write this in response to a review I posted on the Apple App store. I urge anyone looking to sell on eBay reconsider as the system is rampant with scammers and fraudulent buyers taking advantage of eBay's bogus return policy. I was scammed out of $700+ and iPhone and eBay refused to help. The person who scammed me did it to another seller and undoubtedly has done it to others and will do it again, yet eBay refuses to do anything about it! I've been a seller for 20+ years and will never use this platform to sell anything ever again after this experience. eBay is a JOKE.

I definitely agree eBay doesn't protect sellers from scammers. They usually tell you bad buyers happen when you sell, to suck it up, build loses into your prices, etc. The most you can do is report the phone stolen. Sometimes if you file a police report and appeal they might issue you a refund on the shipping.

Unfortunately, your post does not contain much detail about the transaction.
You were asked to write this? By whom?
Best of luck, wherever you go.

eBay has no idea what you sent, or if anything, what was returned: what do you want them to do about it????
Give their money away like you did your phone.... Not going to happen....
Oh and eBay ain't law enforcement.
If you got ripped off (it was not eBay that ripped you off: it was a person)....file fraud and theft with law enforcement....

Huh???
As a seller on this platform they should absolutely be protecting sellers from abuse of their return system.
give my phone away? I sold it. Like any other transaction. Do you give your items away on here? What does that even mean?
local law enforcement? Sorry I live in Philly that will go absolutely nowhere lmao.
thanks for an absolutely useless response to a clear problem happening regularly on eBay, Don.

International buyer won auction (I was weary of this to start as international shipping was not offered). Reluctantly agreed to “tack on $15” for the additional shipping (second red flag) . They opened up a return before the item even arrived as far as tracking shows, falsely claiming it was defective. I asked for info to confirm it’s the item I sold them (serial #, accessories, etc) before I initiated return. They never sent it. Then eBay simply refunded their money without requiring the return of the item. Unbelievable.

Oh and eBay responded to the review asking to post here for more details. It’s been a dead end everywhere I go. Last time I talked to PayPal they said it should be covered but had to wait for bank investigation to end so trying that next.

Yes that was their last response “we understand there are dishonest people, but…..”
Their customer service is laughable with the same cut and paste response every time. It’s maddening. Why would anyone sell anything on here with an attitude like that? Not to mention how absurdly expensive it is to sell on here any more. Done with eBay after this experience.

After this all went down I let it go for awhile to cool off. Then went to leave negative feedback for the buyer (which it wouldn’t even let me do) low and behold the last seller she bought from responded to their own positive feedback saying “DONOT SELL TO THIS PERSON WILL OPEN RETURN WITH FALSE INFO AND EBAY WILL REFUND THEM THEIR MONEY”
I contacted this seller who said she was in tears over the whole situation she had to deal with. Exact same thing I went through.
So this buyer/scammer clearly knows what they’re doing, they’re doing it on purpose, and because they’re international they know they’ll get away with it.
