I use an iPad mini 4 and an iPhone X everyday and list items and buy items almost everyday on eBay mobile app, and have been a member for over 20 years. Now, because of a recent update I can’t use either of these devices to check my eBay account as the app is stuck in an update loop, even though it clearly states time and time again with a pop up window that older versions can be downloaded and installed on older devices….. they cant. I hope this is an update error and will be fixed soon.
EBay tech suggest you either upgrade your device so that it is compatible with iOS 17 or use your browser. Great, very helpful, so essentially I have to fork out £450 for a new iPad and a further £400 for a new iPhone 12 or upwards minimum……….. Ridiculous! Also, the Browser loads way to slowly and is far from as user friendly as the mobile app………. Throwing away a large customer base who cant afford up to date devices is wasteful, very elitist and financially insane! Shame on you CEO of eBay to approve this update and shame on you EBay investors! It doesn’t make any logical sense. It is inconsiderate to people who are not wealthy and those who are old and vulnerable. This will inevitably mean the loss of a significant customer base and a fall in this years profits. Please reverse this decision.
I call on all the eBay community to thumbs up this conversation and perhaps this thread may get eBay’s attention!

With an iPhone X you should be able to access iOS 16 which also means you can access a version of the app - see link below. As for the iPad Mini 4 I don't believe that can upgrade past iOS 15 which means you'll have to use the web browser with that device.
Instructions here: How to update your eBay app
- Requires Android 10 or better
- Requires iOS 17 or better, but there are directions for iOS 16 users to download an older version of the app
If you have iOS 15 or Android 9 and cannot update to a compatible OS, you can still access eBay from a web browser on your device, and you'll probably want to delete the app so links open in your browser instead of the app.

Totally agree 6Master6 - absolutely disgusting that Ebay are alienating users that use 'older' phones, etc. It's users like you & I that have built the trust in Ebay over the last 25 years. Ebay & the 'big' companies should be encouraging sustainability not forcing people to go out and spend more money on new unnecessary tech. There was nothing wrong with the app as it was - it worked and did the job.
Very poor decision Ebay.

It seems that there has now been a reversal on iPhones, which will now operate down to iOS 16!, so a bit of progress! My iPhone X mobile app has started working again. But still no go on iPad mini 4 which operates on iOS 15s, I will need to splash out £450 for a new one so as to future proof any other updates. Ridiculous.
BBC iPlayer radio has done this a few times over the last few years and it really affected my elderly father who had Parkinson’s, who couldn’t cope with the fact that he could no longer listen to the archers on his iPad as the BBC had closed down their radio and replaced it with BBC Sounds, whichnwasnt compatible with his iOS, so he was forced to upgrade but couldn’t as he could afford a new iPad, so he had to go back to his old analogue radio. It is appalling how these companies don’t seem to have any consideration for the poor, old and vulnerable when they launch these updates. You should always be able to resort to an older version for older devices!
