It's different now. If I had to guess, they've licensed the technology from another vendor. You'll get the pinwheel when you go to remove the background but if you wait, it eventually works. Sometimes it takes more time than it should or ought to.
The issue I have with this feature is you can use it on about 4-6 before the app disappears (quietly crashes I presume). Sometimes you have to reupload the photo you were working on as it crashes in the middle of an operation.
Overall the new product they are using seems better at detecting the foreground image, but reliability has taken a dump.
