My particular device was not confluent with instructions. However, the information provided led me to a successful solution: Considering the issue may be with the latest updates to the Google play store, I decided to uninstall the updates applied to the factory Google play store app. Subsequently, the reinstall of the factory version and uninstall and reinstall of the eBay app proved to cure the issue. Hopefully, the rather old version of the play store will not present any issues in the near future...
