If anyone can help me with this question...
I just personally love the heavier, quality, rhodium plated brooches, made in the 60's and before.
Sometimes they have no mark, so my question is two-fold.
Could it be that because they are heavily plated rhodium, the maker's mark just got lost in the plating?
I would think they marked, generally, after all plating.
Then again, like with Coro, sometimes the mark, over time, just got practically lost.
I just have a hard time believing some of the nicest brooches, rhodium plated backs, I've found, have no mark, at all.
What company would go thru such a quality presentation of a piece in design, and stones, and not stamp it? To say who.
And to add to my question, WHY are their unsigned Weiss pieces?
If legit pieces, why were some left unsigned? I'm really curious about that.

As far as Weiss pieces..Weiss did not manufacture jewlery.. it was 'hired out' to jobbers for manufacturing (joolies correct me if I`m wrong.)
As far as items not being signed... there are a ton of Unsigned Beauties (hence the name ) & a whole lot of items not signed that actually belong to a set where some pieces are signed, some are not.
As to why?????...who knows

I have a beautiful Judy Lee crystal brooch that I keep a matching earring with because the brooch isn't signed but the earring is. Unsigned doesn't always mean "undesigned". Search for matches and you can find pieces from a set to help identify them, or just write them down when you come across them while browsing.

I've had Weiss pieces that were on original paper cards with the AWCo logo but were otherwise unmarked. It was probably cheaper than stamping them. As for how to know they're Weiss without the card, you match them to a bookpiece, a piece WITH the card, or a Weiss ad.
I also second Authentic Vintage about unsigned pieces. It took me years to get over "siggie-itis."
The majority of costume jewelry labels probably used jobbers. It would probably be useful to have a list of the companies that are known to have manufactured in-house.
