The family of Schreiner Jewelry are still alive and kicking. Mom, Terry, is 89, and can't believe how my parents, and grandfathers creations have become so collectable. My dad's , Ambros, famous ruffle pin retailed for $7.50 in the mid 1950ss. It now often sells for over $750.00. She is also very unhappy of crooked dealers claiming they have unsigned Schreiner, when it's not even close to anything we produced. I have written a dealer in Cal. several times to remove things that are clearly not Schreiner. She accused me of being another dealer trying to make her look bad... really! Buyers beware of anything unsigned unless you have experience identifing Schreiner pieces, and don't believe them if they claimed it's verrified. Sometimes I will post on a piece if it is clearly a Schreiner piece, and allow the seller to use my post. Many books have poor information about my family's business. One dealer claimed Sphinx is a hallmark of Schreiner, and listed some book from the 70ss, that stated it. Schreiner Jewelry was only made in NYC, not in Europe, or any place else. We did design for many of the best ready-to-wear, designers of the 30ss- 70ss, that was sold to them unsigned, but only made by us in NYC. These pieces were sold with the garment. Hope this helps new collectors, and best of luck to you!
SOME POSTS IN THIS THREAD HAVE BEEN EDITED. ALL EDITES WILL BE IN CAPS AND IN RED. - SANDY, BOARD MODERATOR.

PS; the different dress house designers did not always buy from us exclusively. The way it worked; was prior to the season my, dad, or earlier my grandfather, would meet with the designer in his loft. He he would be given color swatches, and sketches of the clothes line he wanted jewelry produced for, along with what kind of jewelry he was looking for. Most designers only wanted something small, to accessorize the dress, or coat, not outshine it. So they were mostly SMALL brooches, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. Prior to the mid 40s nearly all were clear stones, with maybe small color highlights. After the samples were made up a return trip to the loft for the order to be made up, with the designer. We often were not the only jewelry house competing with a designer. Someone on E-Bay lists us as the sole jewelry designer for Ben Reig signed jewelry, which is not true, though probably 95% of his rhinestone jewelry was produced by us. Since we no longer did castings, or enamel, or early plastics, these would have to come from other jewelry houses if that is what the designer was looking for. So our style of jewelry was not right for everything a designer was producing that season. We only started a Spring/ Summer line after mom, and dad took over the business after 1954, both for the designers, and retail with pastel colors, and later Lucite stones to go with the lighter summer clothes. Sorry to be so long winded!

PPS; having small, simple pieces worked in our favor too, since once the order was placed, we often only had a few weeks to supply 1,000s of pieces to go with that seasons clothing line. This is one reason one finds soooo much unsigned Schreiner

So if you think you are being long winded..I say keep blowing! 😁 😁

I've kind of run out of ideas on what to write about, so I enjoy when people ask a question other than to ID a piece of jewelry. Too bad mom is not here anymore ; she could talk the ears off a cigar store wooden Indian!

Can`t help it..I`ve always been cautious when I see an item & only the earrings are signed
This lovely set is an ended listing but before posting in in the Great Finishes thread..thought it best to check with you to make sure it is indeed Schreiner?
Tried to post just the pic here. but no luck
Thank ya!

Hi Stephen - I apologize for asking this since you said you'd rather answer general questions than ID different pieces, but I was just about to list this and noticed some elements your family used in their jewelry. Would you mind taking a quick look and rendering a yay or nay? Thanks, Amy

Yes! One of ours. We used that "textured" wire a lot

Oh that's great! Thanks so much, Stephen!

@beekeeper_42 Stephen I hope I am not being too pushy but I would love to know how your grandfather got ideas for his designs? Maybe also your dad and mom .
What was the process? I used to design clothing and I always kept a note pad by my bedside just in case I woke up in the middle of the night with an idea! and took a lot of my inspiration from nature.
and again thank you so much for the information you have provided in this group!

First of all, thank you so much for being as detailed as you are in describing your answers. I always prefer clarity and details of brevity and those who choose to communicate that way. Was left scratching my head about the comment about "sooo many unsigned Schreiner's out there." Sarcasm or am I missing all these hidden gems out there? lol

I'm sure we can extract more unknown obscure info out of you still!
that being said I have some IDs to ask you about. I thought I had posted these with my last question but replying to this thread (at least for me) has been twitchy.
The two brooches are constructed like a "brick sh1thouse" as my dad used to say about strong structures. Other than strength and quality I think they meet the other qualifications? Still, they both leave me with questions as to if they are Schreiner? as always many thanks in advance Stephen!
