Did anyone else get this letter from eBay about the changes to the eBay agreement?
Our updated User Agreement will take effect on May 9, 2017 for new users and on June 20, 2017 for all other users. The updated User Agreement was posted on eBay.com on May 9, 2017.
Key updates to the eBay User Agreement:
- We've made it clearer how we address attempts to bypass our policy on Offers to buy or sell outside eBay.
- We may scan and block member-to-member messages sent through our platform to prevent fraud or violations of our polcies.
- We may automatically renew your fixed-price listings unless your listing sells out or you cancel your listing.
- If you use our product catalog information in your listing, we may update this information in your listing when we update our catalog.
- We've made some changes to our company structure that are reflected in the eBay entities you are contracting with when using eBay.
Thank you for being a part of the eBay community.
Sincerely,
The eBay team
Am I reading the highlighted portion of this message correctly? Are they saying they will at their will renew any fixed=priced listings we have listed? And do they expect us to just pay for the additional listings?

I read that also Sandy & wondered.
I don`t see how they can automatically renew if seller does not have that checked to do so. If so..then they have really crossed the line this time as far as butting into/controling our business.

Looks like they'll automatically renew fixed price listings. I don't like it since I like making adjustments to my listings every 30 days. 😞

I never automatically relist anything. 30 days is a long time and family issues can arrise at any time. Besides, correct me if I'm wrong, but if they automatically renew them, there are additional costs involved in the renewal.

That's how I read it also.
As a buyer I hate the automatic relisting. I see the same old items listed month after month at the same price. It is discouraging!

OK. So after reading all 158 post on this issue I can honestly say ... no one, not even the pinks know what the heck is going on. After 158 posts 5 coming from the pinks here is the last word from the pinks:
Hi all,
Thank you for your posts overnight. We're currently reviewing the questions asked, and we'll get back to you with more information as soon as we can.

What if you don't have it anymore? I was listing hundreds with all the free promos I was getting-but when they stopped I started weeding through and plan to either put those items in lots or have given them away.

I was stunned when I read that message from Ebay. After reading a few threads around the boards where Ebay employees have responded I'm now throughly confused. They say that "occasional" sellers are targeted and anyone using the "Quick List" listing format. Am I an occasional seller? I have no clue what a quick list is. But above and beyond all that, THE NERVE. Since when do you force someone to list something and not even tell them, I don't care what their parameters are.
Each time I think ebay can go no lower they start sinking into the mud.

I was curious too, even though I don't sell here any more, so I took a swing by the discussion thread. This is really a new low - nobody seems to have a clue what it means. It certainly SOUNDS like it's something other than the regular GTC... but I'm thinking back to various kerfuffles over sites tweaking their TOS that turned out not to mean what people thought it meant. This stuff tends to be written by lawyers who think in legalese and forget they're talking to people who only understand plain English. One can only hope that's all it is.
That being said, the Corporate Masters who run eBay have forgotten one key fact: they're not the only game in town any more.
No shenanigans... Priceless...

Here are some answers to the questions that this subject brought up from eBay. I am still reading but thought I would share these.
Hi Sellers,
I appreciate your patience while we worked to get the information for you. There were a number of questions repeated on the thread, I condensed the questions asked into a list. Here are the answers.
What qualifies an occasional seller?
A seller who has sold up to 25 items in the past 12 months.
Which Fixed price items will be impacted?
All items listed using the quick listing tool. (Not turbolister or any other business selling tools)
Does this apply to Good ‘Til Cancelled?
Yes.
Will identified sellers be notified of the auto relists on their items?
Sellers will receive the existing Good 'Til Cancelled email.
How many times will they relist?
Good 'Til Cancelled items are relisted every 30 days. Not aware of there being a limit on the number of times the item will relist.
How will Fixed Price listings of a shorter duration (ex. 10 day) be impacted?
They will not be impacted. Members listing items through the quick listing tool do not have the ability to choose a duration for a fixed price listing. That listing form automatically defaults to have the duration be Good 'Til Canceled for fixed price listings. This is live now. Here's a screenshot of the tool:
What purpose is served for Ebay to auto renew a FP listing set up by the seller to be a 30 day or less listing?
Members listing items through the quick listing tool do not have the ability to choose a duration for a fixed price listing.
Suppose I list an item for 7 or 10 days. The item does not sell. Well it really is in a sense canceled, correct? So it goes into my unsold items list. Do you mean I have to go into my unsold items list and cancel? I really don't understand how this works? Or do you mean I have to cancel the day before the listing ends?
Members listing items through the quick listing tool do not have the ability to choose a duration for a fixed price listing. The above scenario is not possible.
What if they do not want the item to be relisted after the listing ends because of their personal schedule...vacation, medical reasons, etc. ?
The seller will need to manually end the item.
Why was this important change added to the User Agreement, but not featured in the Seller Update, as well where it would be accompanied by a FAQ section?
As this is only specific to certain sellers that use the quick listing tool.
How will listings through FileExchange, TurboLister or another third party app be affected?
These listings will not be impacted.
Thank you.

Here is the information on opting out of the new quick listing tool if you find yourself there when listing.
@copper.boom wrote:
alan@ebay Thanks so much for getting the info to us today! It does answer a lot of questions. I do have another question based on this new information:
If a seller wants to opt out of this new quick listing tool and switch to an advanced tool, can they do so?
If yes, is there a link on the top right of the page they can click to switch (like on the old quick form), or would they have to call CS and request an advanced tool?
Hi @copper.boom
If you find yourself in the quick listing tool, you can switch to the advanced tool. You can switch to the advanced tool by clicking on 'save and exit’ at the bottom of the quick listing tool and then you will see 'advanced form' on the top right of the new page.
Thank you!
