Re: A New Year – A New Chat

My tanks are looking pretty good right now, except for the 29 gallon has the curse of the hard water, allllll over it. I"ll see if I can't get some decent pics tonite!

oooooo fresh garden tomatoes? my mouth is watering, Sarah!!!

Have a fun trip, A!!!

We've purchased a jeep, and with Peanut it's been a challenge, I'm not so afraid he's going to jump out, I'm afraid he'll fall out (or be knocked out by a bump). Now I know some might say, well just leave the dog at home, but no, he goes where we go! So I got him a tether and a softer/different harness for the jeep. I can tether him into the jeep and he won't be able to fall out, but he'll still get to enjoy riding around :). He's such a good boy (mostly, sometimes, but not always! LMAO...teenage puppy years, I have not missed them!). I also got him a couple of other tethers for the pick up and also my car (different styles for each vehicle...).

So far I'm enjoying the jeepin' lol I'm unable to actually drive this jeep tho as it's a 5 speed. I will learn, but it's going to take a while! I think I'll 'yell' at my dad next time about him not teaching me to drive a manual car way back when! LMAO

Re: A New Year – A New Chat

Sounds to me like some little dog named Peanut is getting or let's say gotten spoiled a bit! lol... Can't blame you he's such a cutie, My rescue was 9 months he's now 12 years it's very difficult not to spoil them. My guy is a Jack Russell & Papillon named Bandit, and he lives up to it sneaking off with anything he can.. lol.. I love him dearly & the unconditional love you receive in return is so comforting. Enjoy your new vehicle & Peanuts.

Re: A New Year – A New Chat

Picked up an item this afternoon at GW for if we have our midyear weird exchange again. When I saw it, I thought it was perfect for that.

If we don't have one, I will stick it in the have to give them a christmas gift but don't want to box.

Kimberly, no, not my Peanut, he's not spoiled at all :):):) (yes, yes he is, but not as much as he could be!LOL)

I'm telling you he has a ruff life 😉 (my shoes are off so I can make sure the floor board temp doesn't get too hot for him! Also I hate shoes!)

Re: A New Year – A New Chat

Greetings from Michigan's Upper Peninsula! We've been here for a couple of days and I've been searching the shores of Lake Superior for interesting rocks. Haven't found any official "agates" but I have a small pile of banded jasper and some other interesting stones I picked up just because I liked them.

The Big Day is tomorrow -- my daughter's getting married tomorrow on the beach at the end of the street where they live. My future son-in-law is a truly delightful man and I'm so happy for them. I honestly believe they're meant for each other. They're both artists, and their different types of work compliment each other amazingly well. His family welcomed her with open arms last summer when she moved up, and they're crazy about her. They provided lots of support for her as she endured her first UP winter (long, with tons of snow and near-zero or below temps.) I've been hearing about his family for the last year and now I've met them I know they're truly as wonderful as I thought they must be based on what I'd heard.

My sister is here and staying with W and me in a nice house/Air-B&B. We were originally supposed to have W's grandkids with us so we found a place big enough for all of us together. Since the grandkids aren't with us after all we have an extra bedroom that's serving as the dressing room. Couldn't ask for a nicer place to stay, and couldn't ask for better weather. It was 66 degrees and sunny today, whereas it was 95 in New Orleans this afternoon. We're supposed to have more of the same weather tomorrow -- perfect for a wedding!

So here I am bouncing off the wall in anticipation. Gonna be a fabulous day tomorrow!

A.

Re: A New Year – A New Chat

Sarah, that link leas to some fascinating places and stories -- thanks for sharing it! It's going to take a while to go through all those photos!

*sigh*sigh*sigh*  Mama Bear is a little envious of young couple starting out their marriage with all life's possibilities ahead of them. *sigh*sigh*sigh*

Saturday's weather couldn't have been any nicer. We gathered at the house at 5 for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres til 6, and then we all walked two blocks to the beach where the ceremony was held in front of the gently lapping waves of Lake Superior. The sand was unbelievably deep and very difficult to navigate -- W and several others had to be more or less carried into place. I'd never been to a Buddhist wedding before, and the ceremony was really nice. After they were pronounced "married" we all trooped back up the street to the house. The photographer snagged family members, and photos were taken behind a neighbor friend's house -- took forever!

Instead or rice or paper flower petals, the wedding party threw some sort of seeds with silky fuzzy stuff that floated on the air onto everyone. Some of it is visible in one of the photos. Never seen that done before and it was interesting. I'm wondering what kind of seeds they used.

The dinner was excellent, featuring poached salmon, chicken in lemon & white wine sauce, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese w/white cheddar, carrots, a zucchini and yellow squash dish with asparagus and onion, (hmmm... what else?), a spicy Thai rice dish meant for their vegan friends -- I ate half a mouthful and the flames had to be extinguished with huge quantities of cold water. Probably leaving something out... There was wedding cake, and the rest of the desserts were pies, six varieties. (I hurt myself with pie... had to at least taste them all!  😉 ).

A lot of the flowers they used to decorate the back yard, tables and tents were gathered by friends and family from their own gardens. W, my sister and I decided to contribute a bunch of flowers to the cause, but we were having a little trouble finding a source late Friday afternoon. The groom's mom suggested a place near the house, so we went there Saturday morning on the way to the house. I had been expecting a market where we could get several big bouquets and then split them up. Instead, the "market" was actually a florist's shop, so my sister and I went into the cooler with the florist and picked out a collection of favorites and things that would bring a dramatic splash of color. We dropped them off at the house, and my daughter was over the moon about the extra flowers. She said she wanted to use some of them in her bouquet, and I figured a couple of the ones we gave her might show up. Turns out the flowers we gave her were all used in either her bouquet, the maids of honor's bouquets, or the groomsmen's lapels. I was really touched to see how she used the flowers we gave her.

It's getting late here so I'm going to post a couple of photos and then prepare for the next stage of our journey.

Re: A New Year – A New Chat

Love that they used flowers from friends instead of impersonal ones. They look really happy, Really love the cake.

You enjoy the rest of your trip.
