Sending a return label to buyer via email or eBay messages

Hi, a few years back, I made the same mistake and accidentally swapped the labels on 2 packages.  I got a message from one of the buyers today saying she'd gotten the wrong thing and if I would send her a pre-paid label, she'd send it back.

Well, I followed the instructions I was given back then and have the PDF for the label here on my desktop.  HOWEVER, you can't see the buyer's email anymore and when I tried to attach it to an eBay message, it says it won't accept PDF format.

Anybody here that can help me.....I feel like a moron for having made this mistake, but would SO appreciate the help.  THANKS in advance....Beth

Another option is to go to your emails and find the email from Paypal notifying you of the payment received.

If you click to "reply" to that email, you'll have the buyer's email address and can attach the label to that.

Can you still do that since they started masking the buyers email?

Hi and thank you both!   Alberta, you used to be able to see the buyer's email that way, but they don't work like that anymore.  Off to take a screen shot, thanks, Ken, great idea!

When I sell an item and receive payment, that's how I contact the buyer to thank and let them know when I'll ship. (In fact, I just did it an hour ago.)

If the buyer uses PP, it DOES work. Try it. You have to do it from your email. NOT from ebay.

Thanks.

I haven't sold anything since they started masking the email, so I didn't if you could still get that way or not.

I haven't been able to see their email since I went onto Managed Payments.  I used to get an email saying You've Got Money (or something like that) and could hit reply and send a note directly to the buyer's email.   Now I get a thing from eBay that says something like Order Confirmed, and replying to it would only go to eBay.

Anyone else able to reply to the buyer directly?   I liked to do the same thing.....reply and thank them for their purchase, but I haven't had that option in a long time.

Aha! My managed payments haven't kicked in yet. (October 26 is the scheduled date so maybe I'll not be able to see the email address either after that.)

May I ask you, are buyers still using Paypal to pay once managed payments start? Is there any difference that a buyer sees?

UPDATE:

My managed payments went into effect yesterday and today I sold the first item since it was activated. I can no longer see the buyer's email address.

I also checked paypal and there's no indication of the payment there either (even if buyer used PP) so I can't get it from PP.

@bsbk13

I assume you're still reading followups to this post and I have something to add that would help in being able to attach a shipping label to an email.

Having made 2 sales since my "managed payments" took effect on October 26, I found a solution.

Just as you used to be able to "reply" to a paypal email notifying you of a payment and could see and send the email addy a message, the way to do it now with ebay's block is actually something you can do with ebay's blessings.

  • Go to your "orders" page.
  • Under the "total" column is the full payment price shown as a hyperlink.
  • Click on it
  • It'll bring you to the "purchase details"
  • Go to the "email" row (on left) and the anonymized email address is (a bunch of characters)@members.ebay.com
  • If you send a regular email to that address and attach the label, it will go directly to the buyer's ebay-associated email!

Ebay does this so they can monitor what is being sent.
