Questions about measurements but my listings always have a list!

This is in response to WOLFBYTE who expressed exactly what I've been going through! I get questions about "no measurements" on clothing when, in fact, I always add every possible one. It gets tiring explaining to buyers that it is more difficult finding measurements on the mobile app. It makes you want to scream GO FIND A COMPUTER OR LEARN HOW TO USE THE APP!  I was listing measurements in the ITEM DESCRIPTION box but if that box isn't expanded - buyers won't see them. Then I listed them all individually in ITEM SPECIFICS and still got the emails requesting measurements. Again if ITEM SPECIFICS isn't expanded on the mobile app, all details won't be seen. What do we have to do to educate buyers who insist on using a mobile app and then try to blame sellers for their lack of understanding how to use the app? Now if I have the time, I list measurements in both places but is that really necessary? Or if I remember, I add in the description that measurements are in ITEM SPECIFICS. I try to cover all the bases but inevitably I still get the questions. I do believe that measurements should be listed because no one can go by just S-M-L-XL....who doesn't understand that? And to have to look up the manufacturer's size chart will only work for NEW items. Used clothes might have been shrunk or stretched out and the only way to express that is with MEASUREMENTS. Who doesn't understand that? Sorry for the rant........thank you WOLFBYTE for letting me know I'm not the only one going through this frustrating issue!

It can be frustrating being asked information that is already in the listing but if someone doesn't see that info, I would rather they write me and ask about it before they make the purchase.  I try not to let things like that stress me out.

As long as we’re being critical, paragraphs are your friend. It’s really hard to read long rants without them.

Next, not everyone has a computer, I don’t and have no interest in owning one. Meanwhile I thought I knew how to read a listing on an iPhone but I guess I don’t as I checked a couple of your skirt listings and couldn’t find hip measurements so should I not ask?

Certainly not........if it is an A-line or full or pleated or stretch skirt, the hip measurement would fit most anyone. What about the other 500 of my listings? Perhaps you should sit there all day checking them out. Beyond that, I'm curious why you decided to attack me personally after I submitted a pet peeve on a community seller's board attacking no one personally.  And as you can see, I was responding to a long line of former replies.....so long that they closed the feed and I had to start another one! And all of them had similar experiences. So what exactly did I do wrong that got you to attack me personally?  Did you take it personally because you are asking sellers the same questions? I never said everyone should use a computer but did say if one insists on using a phone for eBay, just teach yourself how to use it before asking redundant questions. I actually had a buyer reply to an offer saying "No measurements, no deal" when there were multiples!

Did you really think I needed a formatting lesson on paragraphs? A paragraph is used for a single subject which my rant was!

Enough said...............

I maintain that long paragraphs are difficult for many to read. As far as my other response,  I was merely pointing out that I do want more measurements than you give when I shop and others may as well. The fact that you think they’re not needed is your opinion, not mine.

I frequently do ask for more measurements. You are the first seller that I have ever encountered that responded as you did.  I only looked at two listings and knew that the measurements given didn’t work for me without further correspondence. That’s all.

Your Initial post conveyed annoyance at being asked for measurements which you felt were there yet measurements that I’d like to know weren’t. No problem and your response told me everything I need to know. Many thanks and stay safe.

Questions about measurements but my listings always have a list!

Sometimes rants such as the OP's and and the reaction to responses from others are helpful to us (as buyers) to help us decide who to buy from.

Since very few sellers have OOAK items or items of which there aren't thousands of other listings of similar (if not identical) items, a seller who gets frustrated with buyers who ask reasonable questions isn't one I want to give my hard-earned money to.

Years ago when ebay used to hold "Ebay Live" conventions, TPTB at ebay had workshops. During some of the workshops, sellers complained about buyers who ask questions that are answered in the descriptions.

It was explained to those sellers that since buyers are dealing with total strangers, their only way of trying to gauge a seller's integrity and responsiveness is to ask questions and see what type of answers they get.

IMO, a good seller will respond POLITELY to any reasonable question, even if the answer is stated in the listing.

Thanks Alberta and Bonjourami,

At first I thought it was just me LOL. I always try to be a respectful buyer but I do ask a lot of questions as a rule prior to purchase so that there are no misunderstandings as I hate having to return stuff and in my experience few sellers have had issues with that.

As for long, unbroken postings, I know it’s not just me. They’re impossible to read and I would think that those who didn’t know that would appreciate knowing.

I have another comment. Until now, I hadn't looked at the OP's listings to see how complete the descriptions and item specifics were.

After so much discussion, I did just check out the listings and although 495 of the seller's 536 listings have "Questions are always welcome." in the description yet that seems to be her complaint!! She doesn't really want them!

Another problem is that the "descriptions" of the actual items are merely a copy-and-paste of the title. While item specifics have some info, I don't see them on my phone, though I do see them on my laptop.

But IMO, having a full description that contains ALL the info I need to know about the item being sold is more important than a couple of measurements in the item specifics, something that's often not seen.

JMHO, there's a reason why the OP gets questions about details she thinks are already answered.

Again, a seller's attitude toward questions and willingness to answer questions helps me decide whether a seller is one I want to do business with.

Sorry but a seller who says, "Questions are always welcome" then complains when we ask them tells me that I need to find another seller.

BTW OP you may not have realized that your post is on the Fashion Board and this is the first we’ve seen it. It may have been moved from the Seller’s Board. We have no way to know that this is a continuing thread.

Well now I rest my case. You admit that you can't see them on your phone.......if you know how to use the phone to see listings you would see the same info that you see on the computer. All details on a listing will show up everywhere. Do you think they magically drop off because you use a phone? Look for all the little arrows to open all sections........duh!

And if you read all of my comments, you would see that I only add measurements to Item Specifics sometimes in addition to the Description because people like you say they can't find them one place or another. So to assist my buyers, I take the time to sometimes put them in both places to avoid the unnecessary questions. And yes, that's not "often seen" so instead of whining about me doing it, why not give me credit for going the extra mile to help buyers?

And yes, questions are always welcome and they are always answered in a polite way. When did I ever say they weren't?  What gets annoying, I REPEAT, is when the questions are answered in the listings........even when they are in 2 places! Are you all distorting my words because you are all so bored with life or what? It is amusing that some of you don't even have any listings and are so critical. And some of you chose to hide your feedback - so what are you hiding? and none of you responded to this "I actually had a buyer reply to an offer saying "No measurements, no deal "    AND THEY WERE IN THE LISTING! I suppose you all think that was fair to me?

I look forward to more personal attacks..........bring 'em on.........let your conscience be your guide!

I know how to use my phone well, just as so many of the buyers (or wannabe buyers) who contact you. (In your defense, I will admit that ebay doesn't make it easy to find all the info in the listing but buyers are NOT seeing it and you aren't doing yourself any favors by being so argumentative.

They are NOT in 2 places. You only have measurements in one place and that's in the item specifics, something that's not always seen on a phone.

As I'd said in my post, measurements aren't in the description and in fact, your "description" is merely a copy-and-paste of your title. That isn't helpful at all.

So there's no "extra mile" you're claiming to have gone.

Why is it that when posters aren't coddled and told what they were hoping to hear, they call them "personal attacks?" It's NOT a personal attack; it's constructive criticism and advice on why you're getting questions and how you can help avoid at least some of them in the future.

If your tone is anything like what you've demonstrated here, I can't be optimistic that buyers are accepting that you're answering in a "polite way."

I'm done. Have a blessed day. 🙂

All the OP (and all sellers may want to take note) needs to do is to put a simple statement in BOLD at the top of their listings:

”If you’re shopping on your smartphone please remember to click on the arrows for added info and measurements”,

IMO that would have solved the need for this rant although I completely agree with Alberta that a lot was learned.

Many ebay buyers shop with trepidation from the getgo.
