Need to find a camcorder that uses Mini DV tapes.

I had a Sharp camcorder for years and I lost it on a vacation trip. I had taken many videos on it and still have most of them. But did lose some along with camera. I really want to get another camcorder that will play my old videos. It took Mini DV tapes. Does this camcorder use these tapes? Mine did not play 8 M tapes. I need to see my videos for I am almost bedfast and would love to watch these for enjoyment since cant go out alot or do things to keep me from boredom. If this camcorder doesnt take these tapes do you have another one that would fit my needs? Or can you steer me to somewhere that I can find one that does. My grandchidren would also enjoy watching these tapes. Please get back to me ASAP. Thank you, Janice at

As far as your questions, Mini DV tapes are different than 8 mm tapes. You need a Mini DV camcorder. Most all Mini DV camcorder will play the tapes and most can be connected, with the proper cable, to a display like a TV but, since they are old, they will not have a HDMI output so you would need analog AV inputs on your TV and the proper cable.

I have an old Sony Handycam Mini DV Camcorder with a firewire output that I have used to transfer the video to my computer and then burn a DVD.

There are services that can transfer your old Mini DV tapes to a DVD so you can easily watch them using your DVD player; that may be a better option for you.

You can search eBay for a "tape to dvd transfer service"
