Re: Problem Solutions for your disability

The reason they give for not taking Medicare any more at Mayo is the reduced payments they will receive. This is the same thing we are hearing all over Florida.

Doctors are closing up shop all around the state. Many are becoming part of their local hospital.

But the "Primary Care Physicians" we all have gone to all these years are all gone now. They all say the same thing. They can not make any money with the newly reduced payments they receive from Medicare.

What the tv shows are saying is that Primary Care Physicians were mostly seeing Medicare patients. They were able to function with the profit they made thru those who had regular insurance. Their Medicare patients were making a small profit. The insurance ones were making a good profit. Added together they always did fine. Now they lose money and need to close down. This is almost 100% of the PC doctors in the state. All in a matter of months.

Before the new health care law my PC (Primary Care) would charge $56 for a visit.

After he closed up.  Medicare sends us to the clinic. The clinic charges Medicare $157 for a PC visit.?:|

Triple the cost now?????

Many specialists in Florida are closing up the same way. They are using the same reason for closing. They can not make money with the new payments they receive from Medicare.

When seeing them before the new program we took a look at the invoices.

With the new system we must go to the hospital to see them.  The hospital bill to see the same doctor in the hospital is now more than triple what it was the old way. ?:|

It appears the hospitals have found a way to get 3 times what the doctors were getting after the local doctor closes his business.

Talk about an increase in Medicare costs for the government. WOW???

So we will wait 5 months for an appointment. Go to the clinic and see what ever doctor they want to send us to. No more local doctor we get to know. And the hospital gets 3 times the money the local doctor got?

Not sure if this is going on all over America. If the Medicare costs triple overnight this country is going to have a problem.

Hope this settles down soon.

Birds are about to wake up.

I don't know how this may effect your situations but I saw a story on one of the news sites I read. Turns out the government is not going to reduce the Medicare compensation to health care providers the way they said they were going to. I'm thinking that maybe the article in AARP about the doctor shortage might have had an impact.

Someone told me that AARP was as influential as the NRA. I sure hope so!

Good news on the personal side for me...my sugar levels are officially "under control." The medicine did the trick but has given me a lot of other problems so we're trying a different medicine. It's been quite a learning process for me. I've learned that bread in any form is my biggest threat. So no pizza, sandwiches, rolls, etc. Other things that normally have an effect on sugar levels aren't doing so with me so at least I can still eat pasta, rice and potatoes...yes, in moderation! I now buy the small bag of chips instead of the super huge one!

Re: Problem Solutions for your disability

Happy to be back for a couple minutes. Where am I ?.....:-D

Hope AARP and a few others can help like you were saying. AARP was a big part of getting the health care thing passed. Maybe they are hearing from others like me who are asking them for help. I have AARP secondary insurance. And keep calling there saying "nobody will take Medicare so what now?"

They may be hearing this from zillions of us.

Small bags of chips are good too. My wife gets them at Sam's club when she's able to get down there.

Thank you for all your kind thoughts during my absense.

Re: Problem Solutions for your disability

Glad to hear your sugar levels are good Soloinar ... it must be frustrating to have to relearn what to eat ... but it will be better for you and your body now that the sugar levels are under control.

I am gradually changing the way I eat ... starting out with fresh fruit water instead of processed fruit 0 calorie flavored water.   I figure if I can start there by the time I see a nutrionist next month I may have all this figured out for myself.  It is amazing how what we eat influences how we feel or react to things like pain.  My friends on FB are giving me great tips on foods to eat that are high in calcium or pain relieving combinations of herbs and fruits and veggies.  Reminds me an old book I once read many years ago called You Are What You Eat.

Fortunately I don't have a lot of relearning to do. I changed my diet when I got diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and my doctor was quite pleased with what she saw in my food journal. I had already cut out most carbs. Now it's more of getting myself into eating on a schedule. I've NEVER done that. But this old dog is learning new tricks 😄

I do have a question for the group...I just got back from the dentist and he tells me I have TMD. Years ago I had an ENT tell me that but then my rheumatologist told me I didn't. I did research back then (about 4 years ago) and most of it said there wasn't any cure. Now I see that there is.

The dentist wants almost $350 for a piece of plastic to put in my mouth at night that "may" cure me. As much as I'd like to have the ear ache and ringing stop, I think that's a lot of money for something that may or may not work. Are any of you familiar with TMD or TMJ as some doctors call it?

Thanks for your help!

Re: Problem Solutions for your disability

Never heard of the TMD thing.

Seems sometimes they create names for things to get our attention. And go for our billfolds.  ?:|

Like a "Forever Comfy"

What is the TMD?

Re: Problem Solutions for your disability

I've not heard of TMD or TMJ before ...  you mentioned ringing in the ears and a earache ... I assume that is the problem and they are trying to say they are going to charge you $350 for a possibe solution.  Seems a bit like hghway robbery to me.

Hope you get this resolved in your favor Soloinar.

Re: Problem Solutions for your disability

My problem is that Ebay dloesn't seem to recognize that some sellers, myself included, are hearing impaired. I am severely hearing impaired and do not do well on the telephone. I have tried everything including a caption phone that doesn't work as it is supposed to.  I mostly rely on computer and text messages to communicate.  When I need to contact Ebay or ask a question, I can't find any avenue for that.  When I think I have found a way to contact customer support online, I send a message or question and never receive an answer.  Ebay calls periodically to offer hep and advice. When I tell them that I can't understand speech on the telephone well enough to have a conversation, the Ebay person just keeps talking. Has anyone else encountered ths problem?

I don't remember how to get to it but there is a way to live chat with an eBay representative. I'll see if I can find it and let you know how to get to it.

After sleeping on it...and now suffering a major flare...I've decided to go to another dentist before I get anything done.

What are Temporomandibular Joints (TMJ)?

What are Temporomandibular Disorders?

If the links don't work, in a nutshell...it's a misalignment of the jaw that causes ringing in the ear, pain in the ear, face or jaw, and a whole bunch of other things. It's something I can live with so I'm probably not going to do anything about it. I am, however, going to see a different dentist before I go ahead with the rest of the $4000 plus work the one I saw yesterday wants to do.

Re: Problem Solutions for your disability

Good for you to get a second opinion ... my husband did that ... one dentist said that they would have to break his jaw and rewire his teeth and that this way they could save his teeth ... with implants and dental work ... to the tune of 4 or 5 thousand dollars.  He wound up seeing my dentist who proceeded to pull all his weak broken teeth and fitted for dentures for far less money and he is still a happy chewer today.

Welcome back Auntynuts ... we've missed you ... I hope Solinar can find the link for you to do an online chat with an eBay rep.  Thanks for your help Solinar.

Oh my Solinar ... TMJ sounds like it would be painful and unsettling to have to deal with.  Didn't know anything about this before ... thanks for sharing.

Well, I tried to find the "live chat" button. I guess eBay discontinued it. Or else it was just for Power Sellers. Anyway, I don't know what happened to it. I dislike calling their customer support because it's not even in this country and the csr's have a really bad attitude. All they know how to do is read from the script. And if you ask to speak to someone in the USA...which, by the way is the law...they say nobody is available. I've gone as far as write to the President. Never got a direct answer back but my problem did get resolved.

Fortunately I know I don't have TMD. The only problem I have is in my right ear and it's more an annoyance than anything else. You know how when you have an ear infection and you hear that thump thump when you lie down? Well, that's what I have. And it's not constant. I've decided I'm calling the office back tomorrow and asking for my money back. I paid into their insurance policy and I want to get the difference between the cost of what was done Friday and what I paid. I doubt I'll get it back but we'll see.

Re: Problem Solutions for your disability

Aunty Nuts welcome back happy to see you.

I am deaf also. In Florida they have a program where you can get a FREE Hearing Impaired telephone. I have heard it is nationwide.

Clarity Professional is the name of the phone.

You may find one at www.ftri.org which is the Florida website.

But word is they offer them nationwide.

They ask you to fill out a form with questions. You will pass no problem if you hearing is bad.

Same problem with me trying to call ebay. They talk 1700 words per minute in another language.:^O

When asking them to slow down and please speak English they put me on hold.

Try asking for "my rep". I do that and sometimes they get me someone who says the are "my rep".

Why are you calling maybe I can help you?

Take care,

DWB

Re: Problem Solutions for your disability

My biggest problem right now is in taking pictures.  I have trouble holding the camera steady ... I have used a tripod but can't always get the shot I want with it.  My hands shake and my lower back aches with pain when I crouch or move to get a good angle shot.  I have to rely on my husband to get most pictures for me lately.

I have a photo tent set up and use it on a box so I don't have to crouch for the picture.  Still I find myself looking at blurred photos where I used to get nice clear shots.

Re: Problem Solutions for your disability

Have had the same problem here taking pictures. Selling coins, tokens and stamps, collectibles good pictures are important.

This information may help anyone who is reading:

We found this wrap around desk, counter deal at an office that was going out of business here. They were selling off all the items inside the store real cheap cause it was the end of the month and they were desparate to sell everything.

We not only got this wrap around desk but they had these people there who would move it in for you. We had to give them $20 bucks to deliver it. Plus we got the 2 drawer filing cabinets that fit right under it..

I am able to roll myself right under the desk. So my elbows are leaning on the part that wraps around me. My wrists and elbows are my tri-pod. 😄

This desk also makes it possible for me to be able to do some shipping. Not a lot but some. My wife positioned tape, envelopes, mail packets etc within arms reach of me. And a box to drop finished items into.

We also got this camera in another similar sale. It was at a medical facility that was closing. The camera was designed to take pictures of small bugs, and other very tiny close ups. It was not an expensive camera even new according to the owner. He got it factory direct from Canon. It was just designed for that purpose. It is not able to take normal pictures. Just close ups.

There are small businesses closing up here every month. Kind of sad to see. The shopping center about a mile from here only has 1 store left. 5 years ago it had over 100 stores in there. They all went out of business the past year.

Stores are closing like this all over the state. According to my friends when you travel thru Florida now this is going on in many small towns and cities here.

Anyway maybe you can get some helpful items at a similar store or business closing in your area. They advertise these sales on the local internet sites. And the local Penny Saver not sure if you have those near where you live?

We got a big box full of shipping tape recently for $5 bucks. It has 48 rolls of tape in there.

Sorry to hear you are in so much pain.

Big hugs to all.

DWB

Re: Problem Solutions for your disability

Been reading through some of our older postings.

Reading the things that were going on here only 6 months ago. And how things are going now. Realizing just how thankful I am for our group.

Been learning more in our group than out in the medical world.
