Problem Solutions for your disability

I would love to add to this empty topic but wanted to check with you to see if it's life's problems caused by whatever affects us or  tactics to help with selling.

Nice to see you posting on this empty topic Janet.

One way of selling is:

Have a person realize he really needs what you are selling. If you think about that sentence it will begin to make sense. Or is it Cents? :^O

Well, I'm going to put my 2 cents in...unfortunately there are no solutions for my disability...just different things I do to make each day a little easier. When people express sympathy (or pity which I seriously don't like) I tell them what I have isn't contagious, ain't gonna kill me, and I'm not complaining. I've learned to accept that I have limits I never had before and I do my best to work within them.

As for how I've changed my efforts on eBay since becoming disabled, I handed off much of the physical work to my ex-partner. Now that I'm on my own, I sell much less. I do tend to work within my optimum time frames and that helps a lot.

Hope this helps!

Well said Soloinar ... well said.

I have been on disability for 8 years and it took me a long time to learn how to live within my limitations ... my disability is not visible but I still deal with the "oh my, you poor dear" people ... I so dislike that.  I know my limitations ... I can set my goals with that in mind and life is good ... most of the time.

Problem Solutions for your disability

Oh, how many tmes when I first became disabled was I questioned by people when parkng in a handicap-parking spot.  Was not yet using my walker, nor progressed to the wheelchair.

All people would see was a 30ish woman clamoring awkwardly out of her car, then progressing slowly into the grocery.  And even though I had that parking sticker, I would inevitably have someone asking me if I hadn't noticed I was parked in the wrong spot?

Always asked them if they wanted to see my medicare card and that always shut them up.  But it was a pain having to go through this anytime I happened out.

Now, I do understand their point - they were accustomed to seeing the disabled using some sort of aparatus which signified they were, indeed, n need of special parking.  They were only trying to protect the spaces for those they deemed truly in need - not for those who were cheating the system in some way.

And then, when out in my wheelchair, I'm invisible!  Now, I know I'm not because people don't go slamming into me - the path parts like Moses through the Red Sea - but it is really sort of spooky to disappear so completely!

I'm never going to appear in a stage production of "Riverdance."  But, hey, guess what?  Millions of other people never wll, either!

We are each and every one of us charged with the duty of followng that path laid out ahead of us.  It holds adventure, excitement, love, sadness, boredom, joy - all of the wondrous elements that make a life complete.

The key is being open to the journey and realizing that our disabilities are only a part of the equation - not the full and complete essence of who we are.

Problem Solutions for your disability

This is to all of you who have posted on this comment. I agree with everyone of you about the invisible disability. People too, look at me and think I'm perfectly mentally and physically healthy. Little do they know how wrong they are.. But then I can't blame them because I use to feel the same way.

I can't commit to any specific day since I never know how I'll feel and sometimes it's hard to even function. That's what I fear the most about starting to sell. I'm afraid I won't get to my messages or auctions on time and then to mail out in time. Any suggestions would be so appreciated.. My heart goes out to all of you who have to live with this..... Peggy, beautifully said.

Janet, I know that fear of not being able to come through oh so well and it holds me back sometimes, too.

At least for me, I've found I can almost always manage to respond to buyers and get packages shipped despite whatever else is going on. Some days I think the adrenaline just kicks in from knowing I have to get eBay stuff done, and it gives me the extra energy I need.

You won't know until you try, and you just might surprise yourself. 😉

I agree with you Pat ... the adrenaline just kicks in when something must be done.  I can procrastinate about listing but when it comes to messages and packaging ... well, you just have to stay on top of that.  You eventually find a routine.

You're all so right. I just need to do it. I have carried on for days now and could have possibly gotten something sold. Maybe when the money comes in, the energy will increase. Drs. are putting me on a Bi-Pap machine soon since I have severe central sleep apnea with 85% events, whatever that means. Anyway.. they tell me it will turn me into a spring chicken!!!! ?:|

hoping you all sell alot today and everyday!!!!

Yup, Kate, that's what I experience.

I wish I could get that adrenaline kick about listing items. I did last week with the free auctions, but normally don't.

I have no shortage of things to sell, and it's true that "the more you list, the more you sell." I just have to keep pushing myself to do get them up and running.

"Spring Chicken," eh?!  You're in the right season for it! ;o)

I have tons of stuff I could list and if a goodly amount of it sold, I'd be lost.  I know this from my past experience.

I've been trying to establish the Rag Tag Critters here, and when first listing I put a good number of them up.  And actually sold several - the shock of it set the scene for the remaining fiasco.

Critters went flying out of here all over the place - and some even ended up with the buyers who had actually purchased them.  The rest showed up at the wrong buyers' houses and, strange as it may seem, these people weren't exactly thrilled.

Every one of them had a different manner in which they wanted to "solve" the problem and eventually all the Critters were in the homes for which they were meant.  And I lucked out - no one left a negative or even a "neutral" which for a beginning seller, may well have been a death sentence.

So, I went to school on that and now only list a very few items at a time.  Which means even when/if I sell something, the packaging and mailng process does not become overwhelming to me.

Sure wish that adrenalin would kick in for me.  But it is what it is and this is what seems to work for me.

And that 85% sleep apnea events - doesn't this mean that you have episodes 85% of the time you are sleeping?  Pretty high percentage, which can't be good.

Is the machine supposed to kick-start your breathing again?  Does it help if you are sleeping in a more upright position?

Scary stuff. :o(

Peggy- It is a good time to be a spring chicken but I can't lay any easter eggs..:-)

I just posted 2 simple items and it took me all day. Then I noticed the 2nd one I listed has a crack in a minor area so I'll have to edit (if I can?), the condition. Also, my typing skills are that of a 3 yr. old so my return policy is written funny.. not "haha funny" but stupid looking funny.. Other than that, I did get 2 things listed. I am going to be selling Sacred Thread clothing and I noticed the big bucks people are asking for them on Ebay and I'll be way under their prices so maybe I'll get some customers. Although, I don't have near the inventory some have!!! Most of my stuff is new clothing for women and juniors. Clothes take alot to sell and people say they are hard to sell.

But there's a seller I bought from a few years ago who is really a bitter and dishonest seller and she sells Goodwill type items and she sells about 10 items a day. I don't understand since her FB is poor and she has a history of treating her buyers badly. Maybe she's just lucky. Anyway.... I am now a official Ebay seller... You guys all gave the confidence I was lacking..

Way to go Janet ... it will get easier with time ... and so will the typing ... my husband went from hunt and peck to actually being able to know where most the keys are.  He types pretty good now.

I knew you could do it ... you just have to get in there and get your feet wet.

You can always go back and edit your description ... which is a good idea since you found a crack you want to explain that ... go to the item listed and to the left is a bunch of options for you ... you want revise my item I think it's called ... click on that and  then you can change your description.

As soon as I posted my 2nd item, it sold w/buy it now. As I was packaging it up I noticed a crack in the item. It won't affect the product but I didn't incl. it in desc. so I sent her a email and pictures of the crack and w/option to back out of sale or accept a fair credit back to her paypal acct. but haven't heard back from her so now I'm worried. Not off to a very good start.. Gosh darn it... I hope I am going about this the right way. I didn't expect a problem with my very first sale and just minutes after posting it.. Umh?
