Man do I wish I had that Duck room! I thought I was doing good with painting the trim on the walls Donald orange and the walls white (Disney paint from Home Depot...gotta love it!) in the room where I display my stuff!

Keno was awesome! I was a nervous wreck and couldn't decide on which print I wanted (so they let me behind the table to view them closeup and I bought 3) and he signed all of them and my book! I'm going to Detroit this weekend for their comic convention and he'll be there. Now I just have to find something for him to sign...

And on Daffy...Daffy is ok, he's not my fave though. My fave WB character would have to be Gossamar (not sure if that's spelled right...I can't spell!). I just relate to Donald so well cause we tend to have the same tempermant! And fights with the alarm clock!

1150? Does ebay not allow you to post many responses or something on the boards? I've never really used them before!

Here's all my questions:
Why is stuff released in Europe first?
Can't we still order it from overseas anyway?
Are you in contact with Rosa a lot?

I'm sneaking on at work so my visits might be sporadic!:_|

Question & Answer time with Prof. Elmo Sputterspark...

Question: Who invented the electric chair?

Answer: OH! It's electrifying! Thomas Edison invented the electric chair, the inventor of the glorious lightbulb! I must free the world's lightbulbs, from their inhumane slaveitude! Here you go little light bulb...your free to run on your own with the rest of the lightbulbs...go...you're free...don't you hear me? You aren't a slave anymore...go run away!! ALL RIGHT BE THAT WAY! SEE IF I CAN! I've gotta go fry Darkwing anyways! One duck extra crispy coming right up!

snipeing #'s is a thing many regular posters do, we try to land on certain #'s...mine are ususally 13, 458, 666, and any turning point, such as 100, 1000, etc...posts ending in 50 are commonly jumped on, such as 1150, so without knowing it, you sniped your first snipe!

Why is stuff released in Europe first?

Gemstone only has the rights to re-print European stories, they aren't allowed to publish any new stuff, don't really know why, it's one of those weird laws that Disney Corp has. They are very strict with what can get reprinted too, so if a story doesn't fall under their guidelines we will NEVER seen it in America at all...like "The Black Knight Glorps Again", who knows what's wrong with it, but Disney found something wrong with it, so they haven't allowed it in America yet. Often the stories get changed, art deleted, scripts rewritten, before they can e printed in America, so by the time they get printed in English they may not even be the same story that was originally printed in Europe!

Can't we still order it from overseas anyway?

you can get the stuff overseas, yep, that's what I do, problem is I can only read English so, I'm stuck with just looking at the art and guessing what is going on until the American release comes out. I usualy try to get the french editions because living in a French comunity, I can usually get the stories translated into English. Most stuff starts out in Finland/Denmark than gets reprinted in France/Greece/Germany/Italy a year or 2 later, than gets reprinted everywhere else after that. Italy also produces their own stories (the comics in Italy and Germany are weeklies, 52 issues a year).

Are you in contact with Rosa a lot?
not as often as I'd like too, and prob'ly a lot more than he wishes I did:^O .

I'm also guessing that the European market is more open to the concept of "funny animal" comics.
European bindings are usually of very high quality with over-sized hardcover editions.
The European concept of collecting comics is not exactly the same as the American one. Most Europeans never care wether a book goes up in value or not, they're more interested in a nice looking, good quality book that'll last thru multiple readings by the family's parents AND children.
Their graphic novels are meant to be read and enjoyed.
I've never heard of a Tintin being slabbed or even put in a protective plastic bag. They are proudly displayed in the family book case for anyone that wishes to open it up and enjoy it whenever they feel like it.
Should a book wear down with time, then that's how it was meant to be, at least you know that that particular book was thouroughly enjoyed.

That's my idea of reading a book...over and over so you can enjoy it! At least that's what I do with my poor Harry Potter books.

You guys sure have headfuls of knowledge! Glad I found this!:^O

That's the way I view comics too, I see comics as written to be read, it's more about enjoying the story, rather than enjoying owning the issue, and it's prob'ly why I collect the Euro stuff over the American stuff too. The quality is amazing, the colors pop off the pages, and Euro comics are saddly lacking in super heroes I've noticed---they kind of shun the whole super-hero thing; charater driven plots seem to rule out over action, it's more like reading a good book, than watching a shoot-em-up movie. You never see a lot of violence, and sean would be happy as blood/guts/sex seem to be taboo in most mainstream Euro comics. Give me Egmont or Hatchette comics anyday, they rock! .

Actually, there are European style for just about everybody.
There is more adult oriented stuff, some of it art, some of it pornographic.
There are violent stories. There are comical stories. Fantasy, Science Fiction, Detective, etc.
The joy of European comics is that they are not bogged down in a single style.
I think it was Hachette's moto that their books and comics were aimed at an audience aged from 7 to 77 at one time.
That moto still applies.

As for ordering from Europe, I suppose you could always go practice your French here...

though I'm sure there are plenty of other places to visit as well.
