Hey Rawshark, I'll be in Montreal next month (Marieville actually). Any downtown restaurants you would recommend?

Hey, my dad had a house with his 2nd wife in Marieville, nice little town. Its about 90 KMs from where I live. I dont seem to remember any "good" places (last time I was there it was basically a church and not much more kinda town) for food there, but...

Lots of nice little places in Chambly (home of Unibroue breweries) and St Jean sur Richelieu which are both close to MarieVille.
Great places in Longueuil and Brossard (South Shore of Montreal) too.
And, of course, if you cant find a decent restaurant in Montreal, well, that's simply not possible.

What kinds of food you looking for?

Oh I don't know, burgers, ribs, and Taco Bell mostly. Just kidding, European and French of course. The factory's in Marieville, but we'll be staying downtown at L'hotel de la Montagne. It's been about 5 years, but I do remember an excellent place that was a converted stable, if that rings a bell. Anyway, thanks, and ask your snow to hold off for awhile.

Lots of great places (and very affordable) on Prince Arthur Street, plus the walkway is very nice (no cars allowed)... dont go to Parc Jeanne Mance though... unless you're looking for after-dinner specialists.

I recommend Eduardo's (on Prince Arthur), great little restaurant with a great ambiance... bring your own wine (there's a Societe des Alcools close by) and you can get an excellent meal for under $25 per person.
For desert (providing you have any room left) go down to "Les Calories" or "Kilograms" on St-Denis Street for some great cakes and coffee.

I'll call the weather office and make arrangement for you to get nice weather on your stay.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

actually, there've been quite a few snow-storms in Western Canada as well...
I'm sure the Eastern part, although being spared (at least in MY eastern part) so far, will not be spared for very long.

HEY! I've been invaded!

(not that I'm the Capt. or anything;))

we've had rain off and on, not sure how many days now, today's the first day it got cool enough for it to freeze, but it seems to only be freezing rain right along the coast, inland it's just regular rain, I guess it's the wind comming up from the ocean that dropped the temp just enough for us (we just got back, had to get gas, no didn't go to beach:(--we'll save that for a blizzard:^O---we always do, never miss the Lobster Run! of course I'm not crazy enough to jump in either. Christmas Day on the beach, nothing like freezing your a$$ off for Christmas! :^O) .

All this reminds me of why I love living in SoCal. When I was younger, I could go snow skiing about 1 hour from my home. (Maybe 10 miles as the crow flies, but about 40 via mountain road.) The beach is also about an hour away, and you can easily visit them both in one day.

There's often snow on Monrovia Peak behind my sister's home, and last week when I went to an IRL race in Fontana (45 miles east), snow had fallen night before and made a beautiful background for the race. Of course, it was only about 70ish where we were.

Watch the Rose Bowl game between UCLA and Texas. Check out the snow-covered mountains in the background, then notice that many people are wearing shorts in January. Bliss.
BTW rawshark, I've seen the Atlantic Ocean several times, and it never really changes much. You probably won't notice any difference if you see it again, so no need to make a special effort.

yeah, but both times were from the same vantage point, and both times were during my childhood.
And come to think of it, it wasn't really the Ocean more than it was the Gulf of the St Lawrence 😕

I really REALLY need to get out more
