@stanleyb11

It looks like it might be M H, or a stylized M T,  what is it on?

Re: decipher a Monogram or Signature

I see scratches in metal. From the pic, I don't read that mark as letters, more like three mountains/peaks where the last line was more hastily scratched.

Re: decipher a Monogram or Signature

They are letters as I have zero doubt about that.

The artist was creative like many. Let me explain.

The LAST LINE of the "M" connects to the FIRST LINE  line of the "H" making the initials MH. Therefore, the "H" only has ONE vertical line instead of two, plus the horizontal line completing the "H"

Thank you for assisting

Re: decipher a Monogram or Signature

Looks like it could be MH or HW in another orientation, but it could just as easily be stylized hills or just random scratches.  Who knows without seeing tne entire object?  The object itself can be as much as a "signature" as any marks on it.

Well, if you know that it is "M H 100%.," what is your question?  What do want "deciphered"?  Sorry, but I didn't see this before I posted.

Re: decipher a Monogram or Signature

My opinion:  Painted metal artwork by a student or hobbyist.  Charming and decorative enough to find a buyer, but the person who created it can't be identified, nor would doing so add to its value.   Sell it on its own merits.

Thank you for your opinion. It's appreciated.  I'll make some calls next week to a few Museums here in the USA and Europe to hear their observation as well.

Again,

Thanks

Be sure to let us know what the American and European museums have to say about the piece.  That kind of follow-up is how we all learn here.

Re: decipher a Monogram or Signature

@stanleyb11  I gotcha, I saw the MH, just without the full context, wasn't too sure that it was letters. Still not certain. I don't for sure it isn't MH, just sharing another perspective.

This is the signature for the street artist Plant Trees, an actual tree: http://endlesscanvas.com/?tag=plant-trees

Or something like the classic, chalice or two faces? Well both.

I too make arts and this is my own signature for the last 15 or so years, though it's evolved through my life:

^Is it a symbol? A winged M? A mirror image?

On your piece, the embossing / inscribing into the metal to lay the linework in is definitely distinctive! Curious to hear what the appraisers offer up on it.

Yes, I'll keep pushing for advise.

I also have a close curator friend in Colombia that I will contact tomorrow. He's well connected with Christies. I'll get him involved.
