Re: Is this a fossil???

Looks more like a natural formation as the result of water erosion. Doesn't look like any fossil I've ever seen. The tube part looks like it might be an ancient burrow for a large worm or other invertebrate. Might be a piece found in a cave.

Paint some eyes and a nose on it and sell it as a pet rock.

Send the photos to a curator of one of the Natural History Museums - they should be able to identify what you have there.

Re: Is this a fossil???

I'll second the suggestion above that it may be an imprint of a type of  oceanic 'worm', very much prehistoric; the material, however, is very similar to a few stones I have that are POSSIBLY bits of one of the GREAT PYRAMIDS in Egypt; its a strange mixture of minerals making up the matrix, and it is not uncommon to find bits of fossilized shells and invertebrates lodged in the 'blocks' or 'stones' of the pyramids. That mere fact alone lends credibility to theories about ancient 'man-made' polymers, etc, but I digress...hang onto it until you know it's 'nothing'; for now, it could be one heck of a find..! thanks for sharing.
