Help with identifying possible native pottery

I am having great difficulty with finding anything out about this piece other than it is likely an effigy vessel. It certainly looks handmade. Any suggestions for me?

Not Aztec. Newish I seriously think it is not even ethnic, it looks to be Anglo made in a shed and sold on the side of the road as a flower pot. That's what 40 years in the NA field tells me. But don't believe me, do your own research.
