This pic shows the name clearly, Bates

Then why did you continue to maintain that it "definitely" says Gates and the G "shows clearly" and reject the notion, all along, that it says Bates? Too weird for me, so I think it's time to bail.

oh my, if you would have read my post from yesterday. I stated my other bowl 's mark was harder to read than the first one i posted. thus I said i could not post a picture. Yes my first picture (first bowl, i said it looked like Gates. I just found the picture that i posted today on a pottery site. That picture looks like Bates to me. Other members have posted links to pictures of what looks like my bowls and they look like Bates. Although no one has any info on Bates Chicago. 🙂
Just trying to find out info re: my two pottery bowls.

@laurajeanjellybean wrote:oh thank you . I will post another picture of the other bottom where you can see it reads Gates. I purchased these in 1989 or 1990 and Bates pottery (which is new pottery) was not in existance then.
Thank you for your reponse! I am just trying to learn.
I will post pix soon
Still waiting.

Oh, i guess you did not read my last two replies. The second bowl the mark is even harder to read than my original posted pic of the first bowl.
I found info on Gates pottery but if anyone has info on "Bates Chicago" mark I would really appreciate it!
Many online pics show the same bowl with the mark to be Bates Chicago.
And i contacted the now operating Bates Pottery in Grayslake, but they are a newer (but very talented) pottery and they state the bowls are not thiers.
Thank you ! 🙂

Final update!
Thank you to anyone who has read these posts and tried to help (except I had to block Maxine)
I have a collection of over 400 pieces of American Art pottery and if anyone else needs help with any other pottery (particularliy 19th century) I also have hundreds on books that I can reference. I will try to help you identify your unmarked pieces. 🙂
And if anyone has info on
"Bates Chicago" mark I wold appreciate it
Thank you!

Actually, the "blocking" function was disabled on these boards long ago.
It's odd that you'd want to block me if you could, since I am the only one who said that since you have the pot in hand that is "definitely" and "clearly" marked Gates, it must be so. Then you offered to post pictures to show that mark, and I posted Bates marks for comparison, so we could see the difference in the marks. After that, well, it still all beats me.

IThank you moderator
the person I wrote about will not stop posting
I tried “ignore” but posts kept on appearing
after all the interaction I still don’t know the history of my two bowls
possibly another bowl will appear on these forums again 😀

After such a rude response to a responder who was genuinely trying to help you, I don't think you are going to be able to find what you seek.
Nobody will be able to help you if you ignore valid questions. You have to be willing to accept the help.
