Antique US Military Shoulder Patch Insignia TD 5 what does this signify in old photo?

Does anyone recognize the shoulder patch in this old photo on a man in a military uniform?  Looks like it says T D 5?  Believe he is American; the photo was made in Austin and the family lived in east texas. Last photo shows patch clearest.  Thank you for your time.  20220505_205313.jpg20220505_205316.jpg20220505_205918.jpg

It looks more like T S D to me.  Technical or Tactical Support Detachment or Division... ?  Anyhow, if no one comes along with an identification, you may care to search along the TSD line.

I'm wondering if it is an ROTC uniform. The US Coat of Arms on the service cap is not the one used for either officer or enlisted personnel, but looks like it might have the letters ROTC across the top. The insignia on the lapels do not match what one would find on a US Army uniform, which would have a "U.S." insignia where on this photo we see "T.S.D". No rank or grade insignia appear in the places where they would on an Army uniform.

If ROTC then maybe T.S. = Texas State?
