OT-Favorite Band/Music ~ Reading C&PM

Hello Friends,

I thought I would mix it up a bit and ask what people listen to (if anything) while reading & posting here. Music is a huge part of my life (for better or worse) but it is always a constant. Does anyone here have a favorite group/band that they listen to and would like to share that with everybody?

I will take that next step. My favorite band is Steely Dan and I listen to "AJA" quite often full blast with my JBL L-112's flexing their might and reading the posts here. It is a cool experience for me and I am in hopes that those who listen to music while perusing this board will share what they listen to. 🙂 No right,no wrong, no scam; it is what it is. Do tell...

Happy New Year Jeff,

Your "big girl" is tougher than me. Fantasia scared the carp out of me when I was young.

Bob Segar?

Nope. Not gonna happen!

Went up to Dogtown Fri. to get some ink. The music that came out of there is definitely more my style.

When your in a "special" mood, listen to this on max volume, jump on your bike, cut through the Varrio and hit the freeway splitting lanes at mach 7.

Nirvana!

Re: OT-Favorite Band/Music ~ Reading C&PM

You were at my old stomping grounds? Did you stop by Hinano's and hoist one for me?

We were talking about Red Hot Chili Peppers last night.

I was surprised when one of the musicians in his twenties included Hendrix, The Doors, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin in his top five bands of all time. And then another one kept agreeing with him. Then another one commented how rock had changed when Buddy Holly died.

It reminded me of when I'd leave Venice and go to a party in Hollywood or some other hellhole and I'd hear the twenty-somethings go on about the icons of my youth.

The guys last night never heard of Morphine, though:

I saw Seger and the Silver bullet band in 1976 right before I went overseas in the Army. This song was the best live performance i had ever heard . He combined it with Traveling Man and it was on the Live bullet album.I thought, if they were the leadoff band then how good was the headliner ,they were ok  ,they opened for KISS LOL. B. Seger's band was better IMHO.

Re: OT-Favorite Band/Music ~ Reading C&PM

P.S. I once made it from Long Beach to Ojai at rush hour, 104 miles, splitting almost the whole way, in two hours. I used to count how many other splitters I'd pass between Venice and Long Beach. Usually 9-12. When my Ohio girlfriend was driving me crazy, I once split the 101 at well over the ton while traffic was moving at around 75. That was a rush!

Why Long Beach? My buddy, Mike, who turned me on to Seger, lived down there. He was married to a woman who didn't have a clue who he really was, which was a redneck AH. She thought he was some kind of granola-eating, equal-rights-supporting, save-the-whale liberal.

The only time I ever did karaoke was with Mike and some other guy at a bar in Long Beach. We did Born to be Wild. I didn't need any stinkin' screen to tell me the lyrics and I knew when to fire both of my guns. The DJ ended up joining us and we got a standing ovation. And, the reality is, I can't sing worth a damn, I'm pretty sure, and I know Mike can't either.

Mike and I did a thousand-mile day from Paducah, KY to Colorado Springs one summer. The sad thing was that that weekend was the Springfield Mile, which was about 90 miles from Paducah. But Mike wanted to go to some lame BMW rally in Yerba Buena, Colorado. When we got to Colorado Springs, we'd done 1007 miles and Mike wanted to quit. I was jacked up on like 16 cups of coffee and was all about continuing the ride to the rally on a road devoid of traffic. He won the argument by saying he'd pay for the motel room and found us some stinking dive with sagging beds and the smell of unflushed toilets.

Didn't make it to Hinano. I was close enough, S.T. Tattoo, 1 block north of Venice Blvd. on Lincoln, but being as I was in my truck - Extra cab + 8' bed - parking down there is just ridiculous.

Behind every great rush,

Is a pissed off woman!

Well, it was only the dancing mushrooms clip. Over and over and over and over and...

Earlier, when I played Hall of the Mountain King with no visuals at all, she said, "I'm scared! Hold me!"

That followed Ride of the Valkyries which followed The Internationale (in Russian), her favorite marching tune.

mccoins, why do you think Celtic Woman was faking this song.  They are a very talented group of young women.  I don't think they were faking it.

Actually it was a compliment to them, as I can't believe such beautiful noise can come from human beings.

It truly is impressive.

Re: OT-Favorite Band/Music ~ Reading C&PM

After many months of no audio on my 'puter, I have corrected that... with something that even sounds fairly decent!

Being Richard's thread, I'll post this for him.  No video, but a good 2-1/2 hours of Zappa from 1979, a great way to entertain yourself while browsing fake Chinese coins on eBay!

Many of our old links are dead, Gail is fairly active at zapping Youtube posts.  However, it looks like she started posting most of his recordings herself last year.  This is one of my favorites...
