Did you mean:

"Commit to Buy"

E-Bay has always been my go to web site, my friends and family have tried to get me to use the other popular sites.  I must say I am very disappointed in the new "commit to Buy" button, you may think its harmless, but it opens you up for  legal action if you decide not to buy the item. It does nothing to help the consumer, it can only hurt.

As a consumer that has seen customer service all but disappear  over the years, I refuse to put one more nail in the customer service coffin.

From hear on out unless the item has no "commit to buy" button, I will not be using E Bay as my go to web site, thanks for understanding.  STAND UP / WAKE UP AMERICA

Could you please give us more details about the "legal action" we are being opened up to??  Thanks.

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.

"Commit to Buy"

But isn't that what commit to buy means??

You are committing yourself to buy the item

Every item listing has a verification screen

Maybe i am just not fully awake yet

@sanantoniomad,

There has been a Commit to buy button on Buy It Now (BIN)  listings since before you joined.  You see it when you click on the BIN button.  It is the confirmation that you actually want to buy an item.  If you do not click on it there is no transaction.     If you clicked on it by mistake that is on you.  You can try contacting the seller, explain what happened and ask them to cancel the transaction.

If this happened because you use a phone and accidentally clicked on the wrong button because of the screen size, I would suggest using a larger device.

I suppose eBay could word it as:   By pressing this button you ARE making a purchase of the item and are required to pay for it.  DO NOT press is if you don't want to purchase and pay for the item.

But it would be wordy.   No you won't end up in court but you can be blocked by most sellers for a year if you keep failing to pay for purchases.  It costs sellers time and money when buyers refuse to pay.

That  makes sense to me. Do you understand what the word "commit" means?

eBay buyers have always been committed to items that they buy, there's nothing new here.

When you click Buy It Now and Commit to Buy the item is removed from sale and saved just for you. That is why there is a Commit to Buy.

After reading your other threads what I think you actually want to do is Add to Cart. Then when you go to your cart that will give you the total price with shipping and tax. Add to Cart leaves the item up for sale and allows someone else to purchase until you purchase.

Since that's the second screen of the BIN process, you're completing the purchase if you click the Commit to Buy button. So why would you think anyone believes it's "harmless"? And as others have said, it's been this way for years.

@sanantoniomad

It is my understanding that this is setup so you have to click twice to make a purchase.  This is done to protect you the buyer in case you misclicked buy it now originally.

This is before you click " purchase now", and you can't cancel, and you haven't Paid for it.

The reason I clicked on it was to find the date and options for shipping. There is no other way to find find out unless you go to purchase. You should be committed to buy when and only when you purchase it, Plus most of the stuff is refundable after you receive it, so why can't you cancel after commit to buy?

Its a marketing ploy to pressure you to buy and legally commit you to purchase.

Show an example of a listing that doesn't have shipping details and an expected delivery time.

Everything I've purchased had a shipping cost and delivery details except for local pickup only listings.
